Truly one of the best spots in Richmond! Flounder with butternut squash risotto, lamb lollipops, and pumpkin pie creme brulee..just to name few dishes! The dim lighting is cozy; we loved the decor and the service. Can’t wait to try each season’s menu!

Emily went over the top for us. It was our anniversary, and we were greeted better than we have ever been. They truly made our special day incredible. We would have loved the attention to detail even without the incredible scallops and fish. Truly fresh and tasty with incredible perfect pairings. One of the best places in Richmond!

Food was great. Duck breath was absolutely delicious. My husband had flounder, it was great too. Service was good. But tables are tiny, squeezed tightly. Cheap furniture. Pictures on walls are very eclectic. All that does not match with “upscale” restaurant status.

Let me start off by saying GET THE SOUP! It was heavenly! Followed by the Ribeye, the epitome of seasoned to perfection! The flavors of this meal made me do a happy dance in my seat. The wait staff were phenomenal, down to earth and attentive. They were spot on with the food and beverage suggestions. This is such a hidden gem of Richmond. I can’t wait to go back.

    Hospitality at its finest.
Non-assuming, this neighborhood gem is a warm and welcoming environment the moment you open the wooden door.
We arrived close to closing time. Even though their evening was nearing closing time, the staff were happy to seat us with no pressure and the cooks took their time to cook our dinners with a sense of ownership.
I am so thankful we started our time in Richmond with a visit to the Stables.

I’ve been here two times, my boyfriend took me to this place for our first date. The food was delicious, drinks on point, atmosphere and service great. Of course we had a great time haha and we came back for our first year anniversary, didn’t disappoint us! The menu was different but I must say food was more delicious! I fully recommend it!

  18. Tania Andrews 2023/03

We can’t get enough of this place. The lamb chops are my favorite. The rockfish is my other go-to, fried crispy and oh so good ( I didn’t realize rockfish was so good until we found this place). My hubby enjoys the pork chops and most recently the steak. The menu changes, so we have enjoyed that each visit has been a different experience. Also, I can’t forget, the lemon drop martini, that’s made to perfection. The atmosphere is romantic.

Amazing hidden gem in Richmond. This was an immediate hit, food was delicious, wine was great and ambiance was lovely. You will definitely need reservations ahead of time to find a seat but it’s worth it. Had their Ribeye steak which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and my partner had their Acorn Squash, some of the best meals we’ve had in a while. Definitely recommend for a date night. I’ve been here five times this year since I discovered it. I always have baked oysters my son starts with the lollipop lamb chops: delicious, succulent and perfectly cooked.
    The Cioppino is awesome
The ribeye was perfectly cooked and enough for two but the last word goes to the duck breast. The barmaid asked how we wanted it and I said “pink”. She patiently explained that they cook it perfectly “red”, ok.
It was the best I ever tasted. I always sit at the bar so that I can pepper the chefs with questions. They are so polite and gracious in answering my questions

  33. Jerome Mo 2022/10

Honestly I don’t remember what I ate but it’s not earth shattering. Yes, it’s an unique restaurant in a historical district and somewhat unique venue but food was average. People seem to associate nonchain restaurant automatically with great food. I am not so sure. Food is not bad, but not worth the wait or price. Neither are the drinks. I must be out of touch

Absolutely wonderful food and service. If you are a foodie, you have to give The Stables at Belmont a try. I don’t get out of the West End too frequently, but it’s well worth the trip for a phenomenal meal. I’ll gladly skip the chain restaurants for another delightful experience at The Stables.

  38. Sandro Cafasso 2022/08

Popped in for a quick drink. The drinks and food at the bar were great. Service was fantastic. Seeing the open kitchen and the food being prepared had my mouth watering. Will be heading back to have a meal and to review again. I’m excited to head back there.

  40. KJS B 2022/08

Great food. Cozy atmosphere. My only negative is the bathrooms are super tiny and not handicap/ADA friendly.

  41. Diane Ednie 2022/07

What a wonderful dining experience. Each dish was excellently prepared. The lamb lollipops were melt in your mouth tender. The charcuterie board was
enormous with wide ranging selections. I’m a huge fan of pickled sunchokes now. The pork shank fell right off the bone. The grains, veggies and sauce were a perfect accompaniment. Everything was delicious.

Probably the best steak I’ve ever had. Sit at the bar and you get to watch them cook! Really fun atmosphere.

  46. Ed C. 2022/05

There is still good food in there, but the service is in free fall.

First the new bartender said she had been there three weeks-she had to touch her hair or face a couple times, not wash her hands, then put her fingers in the drinks she made. (Drinks that require you to use herbs, and even to put ice cubes in drinks with her fingers) Yuck we switched to wine.
    Second-disorganized service-
A-we called three weeks ago to make a reservation and ask for a booth, they had no record of the reservation, so we had to sit at the bar.
B-Couldn’t time courses. My lamb app came, then 5 or ten minutes later my wife’s charcuterie came. At dessert mine came, and we sat waiting, and i finally had to ask if they could bring my wife’s dessert.
c-Couldn’t deliver food hot-Our entrees were walked over to us by one of the chefs, (yay they both came at the same time!) both were pretty close to room temp by the time we got them. Now if you’ve ever been, you’d realize that the bar is right on top of the kitchen, so how is it possible to not get two apps and two desserts to move less than ten feet at the same time? How can you sit so close to the kitchen you can hear things sizzle and get cold food?

Zero stars for the service, gave the stars to the kitchen.
We tipped hoping that the bar staff tipped the kitchen so that some of our money went to them.
Apparently, the place changed hands, maybe the new owner can get his feet under him.
I suppose if I wanted cold food only and drinks that didn’t need to be mixed, I might go back. (Kidding, never going back). If you remember how good this place used to be keep them memories intact.
Update-10/26/22 When we made our reservation we spoke to an employee over the phone. Implying that we didn’t follow the process to book a reservation is an example of the attitude that has lowered standards here.

Very cute little place in the Museum district. Looked around for a place for a good anniversary date night and I hit a home run.

Our waitress, Katherine, brought us two glasses of champagne since I told them in advance it was my anniversary. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Started off with the beet salad. Very flavorful. My wife had the lamb lollipops. Tender, tasty with a nice char. I had their seafood pasta. They were very generous with the crab and lobster.

The bartender was very creative. A man devoted to his craft. So many good selections on the menu. But, my wife just gave some flavor profiles and he made a wonderful custom drink. Finished the night off with their Mango bread pudding.

They staff made us feel very special on our anniversary. Thanks for the wonderful food and service.

We went here for a much needed date night, we walked into a quaint little alley like restaurant full of modern farmhouse character. We were seated right away by an enthusiastic man and then brought water quickly. We started with a hand crafted cocktail and the lamb popsicles with whipped feta, carrots and pistachios. It was literally amazing perfectly cooked and juicy. The enters we’re even better and we wound up not feeling like we overpaid. I would definitely go back as soon as possible.

Food was okay. Waitress was amazing!! ONLY reason they got 3 stars. Plus the wine was good.
Not that great but the real kicker was when I left out the OPEN back door to the parking lot, an employee said, “Next time don’t go through the back door”… To which I responded, “Don’t leave the door open then”. Service was GOOD, but meh.

Absolutely fabulous food, excellent well informed and helpful wait staff. We sampled Spanish muscles, and polenta for starters. The muscles are the best I’ve ever had, the marinade would have been a delicious soup all on its own. The polenta was perfect. We sampled the trumpet mushroom, the duck breast, and the swordfish which was the fish of the day. All were excellently prepared. One of the two people who ate the trumpet mushrooms thought that they were a bit tougher than she expected. But other than that, everybody was thrilled.

My wife and I went to the Stables for our 5-year anniversary tonight. The restaurant is small and intimate. The staff was very friendly and caring. The food was fantastic. We started our meal with the scallop small plate and the lamb lollipop small plate. The scallops were seared nicely over a polenta cake and collards. The scallops were tender with a slight crunch of the crust from the sear. The lamb lollipops are amazing. The char added a nice flavor. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Tender and juicy inside with the char outside. The lamb was not gamey either. For entrees we ordered the duck and the cioppino. If you’ve ever ordered duck at more than one place you know there is great duck and horrible duck and there ain’t much in between. The duck at the Stables is great. The breast was cooked to medium rare perfectly. The glaze was a great compliment to add some sweet and tart flavors to the duck. The scallion pancake with the duck was a great compliment. It was crispy and somewhat caramelized. Last my wife’s cioppino was great as well. The broth base was light so that the flavors of the seafood were still evident. The seafood was cooked perfectly such that it was still tender and juicy. It’s easy to dry out fish in a stew. This was not dry at all and very good. I highly recommend the Stables. We will be back when we visit Richmond again.

Absolute gem. Time and again. The Stables rivals any restaurant for best in town right now. A-Z spot-on. Charming place on Belmont / Museum District. We sat at the bar across from the open kitchen. Chef’s table. Scallops, Lollipop lamb, and mussels. All small plates. Bordeaux wine. Outstanding. Enjoy and cheers.

Went to Oktoberfest and while walking back to our car, stopped to check out the menu posted on the window. Decided to go inside and see if there was availability. Our lucky night- got a seat at the bar right in front of the chef and his team- what s treat!! Food was delicious; we had Catch of the Day with collard greens and a vegetable risotto. As well as fun chatter with the team! Such a pleasant experience and a culinary delight! Definitely will be a favorite spot to dine!

I had the app lamb lollipops; my daughter had the lamb lollipops entree – great choice…so delicious. The entree came with more lamb than the app, the rice, and beet sauce. It was all epic and delicious! We also got the lobster and crab gnocchi – THIS is the fish to get. A wonderful blend of flavors with a foundation of lobster…so good! Service was spot on.

While walking down Belmont you could almost mistake The Stables as a hole in the wall dine-in, but as soon as you sit down the waitstaff are ready to make the dining experience a memorable one, embracing their homely atmosphere and hospitality. The lamb lollipops were well seared and fantastically seasoned, the duck breast was a delight with a crispy outer skin and the brussel sprouts with the sweet potato puree was amazing. Their creole pappradelle was a delightfully tasty dish and left my tongue dancing even after the meal had ended. The cioppino was a dish meant for an appetite and even though the baguette was a little scorched at the very end not a scrap was left. We enjoyed a a varied selection of their cocktails and specials and finished the evening with a Smores Italian meringue chocolate panacotta. Yum!
Would easily recommend to anyone who is looking for a personal dinner setting for a special occasion or for a night of fine dining in downtown Richmond.

  92. Owens Simpson 2021/02

First and foremost, this place will surprise you once you’re inside, because it does feel like a high end experience. The server was energetic, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I wish I knew their name to give them a shout out, but they had short brown hair and wore a long sleeve button up.

The crowd is a mix between people in suits and casual attire. The atmosphere doesn’t feel too snooty though.

The food was phenomenal. My table had the lamp lollypops, the shrimp and grits small plate cajun style, cajun corn fritters, pork shoulder, and the duck breast. Everything had so much flavor and the presentation of each dish was impressive.

The cocktail menu is unique and robust and I would recommend the place between the pines.

10/10 recommend but you need a reservation because it is a smaller venue. Can’t wait to go back.

The prices match the quality so be prepared to spend a pretty penny.

The Stables at Belmont proves the axiom that there are many well-hidden locally-owned culinary gems in Richmond that you would be hard-pressed to eat at in a year. The Stables is one of the tiniest, hippest and best restaurants that you may not have heard of before.
We were served in a small wine bottle-filled private room by our waiter Tim who brought out surprise after surprise of some of the best food I have ever eaten. The lamb lollipops ($16) over Frisée with tamari aioli were gorgeous, tender and delicious. Do not miss an opportunity to try these if you visit. My personal favorite were the Southern scallops ($13) with collard greens, rosemary polenta and bacon beurre, a fantastic southern-style presentation. The Creole Shrimp jambalaya ($13) with chimichurri and gremolata had everyone drooling. I also regret not ordering the Spanish mussels ($15) with mango, coconut, Calabrian chili, cilantro, saffron and grilled bread, but that’s a great reason to return.

The Catch of the Day was Swordfish ($29) over spring risotto with asparagus, snap peas, grilled corn, roasted red pepper, lemon, ricotta and pea shoots. My entrée was a fabulous Cioppino ($29) with shrimp, mussels, scallops, fish and andouille in a rich seafood broth with grilled bread. We also had the lobster & crab Parisian-style gnocchi ($32) with asparagus, snap peas, lobster cream and pecorino, which was eaten down to the very last drop and, finally, the duck breast ($29) in a duck-fried scallion pancake with grilled Bok choy and asparagus, which was very tender and fragrant.

Dessert was a couple of scrumptious chocolate panna cottas ($8) and the total was $328.30 for four people.

    Drinks:

    Daou Chardonnay 2019 $13 x 2 = $26
Black Beauty with plantation rum, Gosling’s black rum, lemon blackberry puree and brown sugar lavender syrup $12 x 2 = $24
    D.O.M. Bendictine $12
Letras Minúsculas Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano Rioja 2018 $10
    Bombay Sapphire martini $9.25
    Grand Marnier $9
    Esperto Punit Grigio 2017 $8
    Getränk Grüner Veltliner 2019 $8

Upscale local Richmond restaurant. The duck breast was incredible, and the crab and lobster gnocchi and roasted pork shoulder were delicious as well. The pork could have lost a little salt and been perfect, and I really enjoyed the grilled pineapple in the dish. The cocktails were fantastic- we tried all of the bourbon drinks (Belmontier, HipHip CynCyn, A Place Between the Pines) and the Black Beauty. Service was impeccable and the ambiance and decor was stylish. The food was pricey but affordable for a nice night out. It’s a smaller restaurant with private rooms for parties over 4, so I recommend a reservation. I didn’t feel the open tables were loud, but older relatives may have a slight problem following the conversation if they have hearing loss.

Overall good food, nice restaurant, nice staff. I wouldn’t say what we ordered was worth the price, but cant complain since it is a bit of a dressier place to eat. The duck and muscles was the best of the items we ordered.

Stables is one of the best restaurants in Richmond. The chef and bartender are best in class, and we’ve never experienced anything but exemplary food, drinks, and service.

SO incredibly good!! It’s rare to go to a new restaurant and adore every single dish, drink, and dessert you get. Highly recommend this place!

I took myself here on a happy hour date and had one of the best dishes of my life: pork belly cassoulet, served in a hot cast iron dish. The pork belly was grilled to perfection and served on top of a fantastic, rich, and meaty white bean stew. And both the dish and the cocktail were each $2 off for happy hour 4-7pm. The space itself is super cute and romantic. Recommended!

  109. LaVaniel 2020/07

Went here for Valentine’s Day recently and it was a very nice experience. It has a cozy, dimly lit interior, perfect for a date night. We had the shrimp & grits, pork belly and lamb lollipops for appetizers. Shrimp & grits some of the best I’ve had. Everything was seasoned well. The pork belly was ok. It was served over white beans. It was very tender but not very flavorful. I read The Stables was known for their lamb and I can see why. Lamb lollipops were excellent! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. For dinner, we had the monkish and duck breast. Monkfish was interesting. I’ve never had it before, but it had a crab like consistency to it. Also had a peppery flavor. I enjoyed the duck breast. Well seasoned and the potatoes that accompanied it were good. I went with the waitresses’s recommendation of medium rare, but I think medium would have been better in this case. The center parts were the meat was less cooked was a little harder to chew on some pieces. Service was good, although, there was a bit of a wait between when we got our appetizers and it main dishes. Overall, I would recommend. On a side note, go to the bathroom before you get there. The bathrooms are small closets you can barely fit in with just a toilet. There is one sink in the hallway.

Excellent food. They were very courteous. We were fortunate to walk in on a Saturday night without a reservation. They still found a place for us. (I would recommend making a reservation.) When we found a mistake in the bill, the waitress not only corrected it but took a dollar of the price of the item. Nice atmosphere; my wife and I could hear one another in conversation. A bit expensive but worth it.

First time at The Stables. Had valentines dinner here with my husband. Service was great. We ordered a bottle of red wine, a scallop appetizer served with collard greens and polenta, Lamb Lollipops and Pork Belly Entree and for dessert we had the chocolate mousse with raspberry and a short bread cookie. Everything was amazing from the moment we walked into the door. Great restaurant for a special occasion. I can’t wait to come here again!!

Food was amazing…changes everyday ….so go

  115. Timothy 2020/05

The food was dry and overpriced. When we came for dinner they were out of several main items (mushrooms for example). Being vegetarian, I asked for a substitute for the portabello mushrooms and they gave my vegan crabcakes- and then upcharged substantially for the meal (which ultimately came to 30+ dollars with no animal protein). Not a great experience

  116. Catherine Hyland 2020/05

My experience at The Stables was incredible. The food is creative without being so pretentious that you have to Google the ingredients at the table and the cocktails are so original and delicious. I went for a special occasion and our server made us feel special from start to finish. I could not recommend this restaurant any more for a special occasion celebration.

  117. Christopher Tweel 2020/03

The seasonal rotating menu it is swiftly become our favorite place.there is something about a restaurant that has a limited supply of the things they made for the day. This means that the food you receive is fresh and intentionally crafted for your consumption. whenever we have gone we’ve been delighted by the variety and deliciousness of the menu offerings, which also have a sense of uniqueness in creativity. You aren’t just getting the same old thing! add to this an excellent bar list and a divinely inspired cocktail menu and you have the makings for a truly superb place to spend your time at the table.

  118. Dan R 2020/03

Our waiter was very attentive. I enjoyed the decent selection of N/A beverages (the cocktail menu for drinkers looked good too). The cheese plate was well curated, and both lamb dishes were fantastic. I was a little sad that the venison dish wasn’t available, but it was still a great experience.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in Richmond! From the cocktail at the bar, and the knowledge of the bartender and bar staff. To our waitress and the other wait staff who carefully helped us make choices. You have to get the ribeye, it is probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever enjoyed! Bravo

  122. David Ellison 2020/02

My friend and I sat at the bar for dinner. I started with the vegan crabcakes and the red terra to drink, which were both solid choices. My friend got the pork belly cassoulet. For the main course, I got the lamb deux fois which was delicious. My friend said the cioppino was really good as well. The bartender was really nice, had some great skills and was able to create new drinks on the fly.

The Stables is a beautiful and intimate small restaurant with a menu to delight every sense and taste. I could not believe the charcuterie board alone ( I mean I thought I just LIKED cheese and meat, but girl let me tell you… This is next level. ) – but a solid cocktail list and well-crafted dinner menu matched with wonderful service from the staff will keep me returning too!

  137. Leah Rampling 2019/09

The buffalo califlower intrigued me because typically I’m not a cauliflower fan, however this cauliflower was incredibly good and very flavorful. The actual taste of Buffalo wings is on the cauliflower in it pairs very well with it the sauce a nice sweet and spicy traditional buffalo sauce that I loved. There was also blue cheese crumbles on the califlower. Def not a bad dish for the 9 dollar price

  138. Alex Minnerly 2019/09

Great food and great people in a well designed space. Sit at the bar and watch them create everything on the menu. Small plates are smaller versions of their entrees, so you can sample more items without spending much more than the entrees, especially at happy hour. Liz behind the bar knows Richmond inside and out and has great suggestions for drinks and wine. Parking is available in the back so there’s no reason not to go.

An absolutely wonderful dinner! We strung together several apps (including a fabulous tartare and a great peach salad…oh, and the duck liver pate was wonderful). THEN we shared an entree of the best duck breast I have ever been served.

Craft cocktails were wonderful, and the service was super friendly and prompt! Executive Chef Evan is both an artist and a machine in the kitchen…he even called me early in the morning to advise me of a street event that would impact parking.

  148. Chris Reidenbaugh 2019/06

Anytime you roll into a restaurant with 12 people, it’s a little intimidating for the staff. Not here… Evan and the rest of the employees were on point and we never waited more than a few minutes for anything that came out of the kitchen and bar.

The porterhouse was perfectly cooked as well as the lamb chops. The shoshito peppers were the surprise winner for me. So simple, yet delicate and packed with flavor.

If you’re in Richmond and they have a table available- don’t make the mistake of going somewhere else. Thanks for a great dinner, Chef!

  154. Holly Kreiner 2019/04

My husband and I have never had a meal here we didn’t like! The items are seasonal so I have gone in longing for a meal I had months before and instead trying something equally spectacular.

Most recently I had the salmon with blood orange risotto. It might be one of the best meals I’ve ever tasted. The citrusy risotto was such an interesting compliment to the salmon and there were English peas and pine nuts sprinkled throughout giving it an amazing texture. I don’t usually eat everything on the plate but dang if I didn’t almost explode shoveling in the last bite. So Good!

The service is also excellent. They’re always very friendly and attentive with answers to any questions and good recommendations.

After reading other reviews, I expected an exceptional visit, but left not understanding what the fuss was about. Our server was attentive and polite, but after that, there was nothing about brunch that would make us want to return. Bitter coffee, no effort put into plating and presentation, table stools wobbly and in need of repair. The search for brunchutopia goes on…

  165. Michele Larson 2019/02

Evan at the stables is the man… One of the best dinners ever. We were a table of 12 and the service, cocktails, and food was perfection. We literally ordered a little of everything and shared. Lots of great menu choices, and Chef was personable and attentive, as was all the staff. Quite possibly the best lamb I’ve ever eaten (and, I’ve eaten a lot of lamb). The panacotta dessert tasted like an upscale s’more.

    Nice small place very small

  179. Daniel “DanTheMan” 2018/09

Delicious food and very good service. Slightly on the expensive side but worth the cost.

The cocktails are great, but the caprese appetizers we tried were just okay for the price. Richmond has a lot to offer in this price range, so in my opinion you’ve really got to bring it!

Excellent! We went for New Year’s Eve. Despite my crazy allergies and them serving the whole restaurant at the same time the food was excellent. They seamlessly accommodated to my allergies and knew acknowled then upon seating (made reservations through open table and noted the allergies there). We had a pre-fixe menu so I can’t comment on the normal menu food but I doubt that it would be any less quality. We were stranded in Richmond because of my husband’s job and if in Richmond again will definitely be back! Thank you for a memorable evening!

Amazing brunch. Great service! The food and drinks were fantastic!

  183. Karla Estrada 2018/09

Loved brunch and great service. Our server Aaron was so sweet and on top of things. I Would defiantly come again!

  184. John Parrish 2018/09

Stopped in for afternoon cocktails and apps! Seating is a lil limited but we sat at the bar and talked with the chef as he seared our scallops. Definitely need to become a regular there.

We were so looking forward to a wonderful meal only to be dissappointed. For starters the online menu was not in sync with the actual current menu and the fish listed was not available. The veal short ribs and bread pudding were both extremely overcooked and dry. The cutting knife barely sharp enough to cut thru the meat, add the chunks of fat thru out it simply did not make for a memorable dinner. The ravioli dish was overloaded with garlic which totally hid the roasted pumpkin. The bright spots were the duck pate mousse small plate, the cocktail of the evening and our waitress Heather who could not have been nicer. Agree with other reviews regarding the noise level, makes conversation challenging.

    Delightful. Small gem. Delicious food.

  187. Patrick B 2018/07

I loved this place, small and intimate without feeling cramped, the food was perfect. I felt like I had discovered a secret and next time I am in Richmond I will be going back

Nice small restaurant in the Fan. My wife and I went for our Valentine’s date. Enjoyed the cocktails, food was good not great. Atmosphere was good. We we’re less than pleased with the service. We were moved to a different table Midway through our appetizer because the restaurant messed up our seating. We didn’t mind their mistake but it would be nice to adjust their seating for those who have yet to arrive instead of those who are already seated. Very poor first impression.

A cozy spot, it was pretty crowded when we arrived. We had a reservation and were seated after about 15 mins of waiting at the bar. No problem there, the cocktails were great. We split a bunch of appetizers, and all were good. My favorite was the pork belly. My entree was the Bolognese, and I was a little underwhelmed. My wife had the rock fish, which was decent but not great. I was expecting better. I think it’s worth another try to taste some of the other entrees.

  190. Jerrold Lerner 2018/06

    Great food and service

  191. Luke Atwood 2018/05

Excellent cocktails (good happy hour!). We ordered all small plates and appetizers instead of ordering entrees. All were great – we loved the pork belly and the pimento cheese

  192. James Barnes 2018/05

    The food is great

  193. Todd Binsz 2018/05

Kind of a new place with great service and food. A little expensive but worth the money.

  194. Shannon Roulet 2018/05

    Really nice staff/chefs, good portions

  195. Liz Kincaid 2018/05

Love the steak and honey service. Great wine list curated with love.

  196. Johanna Leinmueller 2018/05

    Lamb chops sublime. Duck good.
    Tuna tartare excellent!!!
Recommendations: more dressing or salt on the summer salad.
    Cocktail sucked.
    Wine was soso.
    Coffee was burned.
My suggestion is to get COTTON NAPKINS and remove the polyester.
    Dessert rocks.
    Wait stuff professional but genuine.
    Overall very enjoyable dining experience.

We’ve only been here twice, but it’s going on our list of usual spots, along with Laura Lee’s, Little Saint, & Max’s. Excellent brunch & “small” plates that are almost full size meals. The building is small, so definitely make a reservation.

  198. Aubrey Duerksen 2018/03

The drinks were the only thing that impressed me. Despite having a reservation, my husband and I got moved from a 2 person table to a 4 person table minutes after sitting down and getting comfy because the host “accidentally sat [us] at the wrong table.” When we requested, we were told another 2 person table was not available and observed the other 4 empty 2 seaters being filled by couples over the next hour. The food had no redeeming qualities either and served only as overly salted, bland, or chewy sustenance for the remainder our post-dinner activities. Our waitress, however, was lovely and a joy to have.

  199. Andrew Garcia 2018/02

The food was great for brunch but the drinks were just okay.

  200. Brian Murray 2018/02

Pasta Bolognese + heblinger = heaven

  201. Jerry Gaetano 2018/02

The Stables is a cramped awkwardly subdivided space with lousy room acoustics that amplify noise to an almost saloon like degree.

The food was bland and had no visual appeal whatsoever. Think airport lounge or hospital commissary. Scrambled eggs that were devoid of any flavor, bacon that was burnt and tasted like it’d been prepared then reheated. The coffee was terrible and our soft drinks were overly watered down. Our waitresses was attentive and did her best to make us comfortable so I’ll offer a single star for her efforts.

Overall the entire experience felt discombobulated and forced. If you want to go somewhere to be seen (or heard), maybe this is the spot for you. If you want a solid brunch and decent value for your dollar then I’d recommend skipping this place.

  202. Jason Zamagni 2018/01

Great restaurant. I had the lamb chops and they were the best I’ve ever tasted. My friends enjoyed the food also. It would have been nicer if they had more vegetarian options. Overall very good!

  203. Kristy Shaffer 2017/12

Tasty cocktails and desserts. Will have to go back for dinner!

  204. Carl Judnick 2017/12

Excellent experience. Charming for an old stable refurbished. Great drinks go well with the Pork Belly Benedict or the spicy Shrimp & Grits. We’ll be back.

  205. Sam Sparks 2017/12

Hands down one of the nicest date spots in Richmond. The food is a great price point and the cocktails are updated fairly recently. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful for the wine list. I love duck and they do an amazing job. If you sit at the bar you can watch food being made which I find interesting.

  206. mabi377 2017/11

Flavors were… meh. Was served an app with 3 burnt, not seared, scallops (Chef never should have sent them to the table). Cioppino was rather blan and very small portion for the $25 price. Not planning to go back.

  207. Jack Doeler 2017/08

Was passing through Richmond and this place was recommended. Without a doubt one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Menu is varied and incredibly thought out. I tried the scallop appetizer and the couple next to me had the cioppino and the duck breast and they both raved about it. The open kitchen is the perfect addition to the bar. The chef was attentive and tasting everything that went out! Lauren the bartender was amazing and provided fantastic menu recommendation for both food and booze! They’ve only been open two months and are already killing it!!! If I’m ever in Richmond again I will undoubtably be back!

  208. Meaghan Rymer 2017/08

Came in solo for dinner and drinks at the bar around 6 on a Friday night. Spectacular service from Lauren at the bar. The food was on point. I had the lamp lollipop small plate to start and the Cavaletti cocktail. Both were divine. Then, I had the duck breast as my entree. The skin was crisp and flavorful and the duck was cooked to perfection. Well done Chef Evan. I will be back.

  209. Myke Cav 2017/07

Excellent food and service. Nice little neighborhood upscale restaurant. Recommend early dining as it’s a bit tight when full

  210. Rosemary Ann St.Jacques 2017/07

Emily is an excellent bartender and there is a gluten free vegan pasta!

  211. Jay Levine 2017/07

We had an excellent first experience at the Stables! Loved all 3 courses and fantastic wine — we will be back

  212. Will Melton 2017/06

We were grabbing beers at Ardent Brewing and called this place for a reservation. They had a recent cancellation, so they fit us in at 8:30 PM. Our first impression was that it was a tight space, but the staff were friendly and accommodating. We ordered a beer and a glass of wine to start and received helpful advice from our server who seemed to be very knowledgable about the wine as well as food pairings. The first glass of wine we got was not cold enough, but the server didn’t hesitate to bring a new colder glass.

For food, I ordered the half chicken with a micro-chopped veggie medley and a garlic pan sauce (that my wife pointed out made it’s way all over my white shirt) that was to die for. My wife got a linguini pasta special with a butter sauce and chicken. While I only had one bite, it we also scrumptious – my wife ate the rest.

While dessert was offered, we had to head out to visit with some friends, so we did not get a chance to sample that.

All-in-all this place was excellent. It is a little cramped and it’s evident that they used 100% of the space available (bathroom sink in hallway to bathrooms), but the food and the people make up for any notions that the place might subpar. We can’t wait to go back and try more from their excellent wine selection as well as to get some dessert.

Good beer. Good food. Emily is tops!

  214. Bruno Sultanum 2017/03

Awesome! If you are in a small group, seat by the bar and appreciate the cooking. It’s like food Network live!

  215. Gregory Moore 2017/02

Wonderful meal. Very small and cozy. Delicious food Great service

  216. Steve Douglas 2017/02

Steak was perfect. I ordered Pittsburg style. Chef came out to ask how everything was. Impressed

  217. Jerry Swerling 2017/02

Chef Evan Campbell and his talented team are turning out some pretty amazing dishes in this cozy space. Tonight we sat at the bar and shared four small plates plus dessert, all of which were fantastic. The wine, beer, and cocktail choices are varied and well suited to the menu, while the bar scene is friendly and unpretentious.. Eat here and be happy.

  218. Art Matt 2016/12

Cool place with a nice staff

  219. Evelyn Nunes 2016/12

Delicious food, just amazing! Sit at the bar and watch them cook, very cool too.
