Took a party of six there last night- loved it! We shared the pimento croquettes, brussel sprouts and smoked fish apps 10/10- and the szechuan duck, Scottish salmon and braised short rib pasta for dinner- all incredibly delicious including beautiful presentation and cooked perfectly. Oh and the desserts! Get the candy bar, just do it.

The drink menu is generous and creative. Beware of the giant rectangular ice in the old fashions, they will bonk you in the nose but delicious nonetheless.

Our server Eli was charming, knowledgeable and all around a delight. It was a very welcoming atmosphere and the folks working there seemed to enjoy what they do. It was nice and quiet for our early dinner and bumping by the time we headed out.

Our party of 6 had a good time at Heritage. They were very welcoming and the cocktails and appetizers were very good. They have a limited selection of entrees, and that made it difficult for me at least. The short rib pasta I did get was okay but not great. There were mixed reactions among the rest of our group about the entrees we had. Parking is the usual city-type hassle, but that’s unavoidable.

Maybe an off night, but the duck was pretty underwhelming. Dry and not much sauce or seasoning. Same goes for the veg and rice that came with it. At nearly 40 dollars for the entree there are other restaurants in Richmond with better quality and value.

This is a “wanna be” fine dining restaurant with high prices and quite lackluster food. So have your expectations low! I gave 3 star just because our waiter was a nice guy and quite attentive otherwise 1 star would be my true rating.

I had been wanting to try Heritage for a while. I finally went with a friend for softshell crabs back in early summer and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Then came with my foodie cousin when he visited me in July. Once again everything was terrific.
Because of my good experiences I held my birthday dinner here a few weeks ago. Party of ten. Reserved about a month in advance. Consulted with staff week of the party to know what would be on the menu. Pre-ordered a variety of starters for the table to share since appetizer discussion and decisions always seems to be a hang up. Then guests picked their entrees and desserts. All the food was great as well as the service. Everyone left happy and are still commenting about the great evening.
I will definitely be dining here again and recommending it to others.

We hadn’t visited Heritage in years but headed back last night to see what they’ve been up to. Wow. INCREDIBLE cocktails, wine, food, and service. We ordered the fried oysters which the chef made gluten free for me and they were so amazingly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We also had the cheeseboard with foie gras, the rockfish, the ribeye, and a couple of handcrafted drinks that were wonderfully unique (mine was called Enter The Void). Everything we tried was truly delectable and the flavors/textures were 100% spot on with excellent wine pairings. One of the best meals we’ve had in awhile. Next time we will save room for dessert! I believe our server’s name was Casey- she was outstanding. We will be back for sure.

The food was FABULOUS, the service equally so! The chef, Joe was extremely generous to us and brought us dishes to try. In summary, American hospitality and generosity at its finest. GO-Try this wonderful restaurant!

    Excellent meal.

The tuna sashimi appetizer was quite special. A wonderful mix of flavors and textures – tart, smoky, salty with a bit of crunch. Perfect for a warm summer day.

Sichuan duck was perfectly cooked. Very ginger forward, which I liked. Tasty Sichuan sauce. Liked the veggie accompaniments.

Homemade ‘ice cream sandwich’ was outstanding. I mean like James Beard winning / 2 Michelin star awesome. A somewhat eclectic mix of orange, pistachio and sweet cream flavors that just harmonized and worked. I could eat this every night.

My cocktail was outstanding. Loved the selection of whiskeys and bourbons.

    Friendly and attentive service.

Excellent bang for the buck – important in today’s inflationary environment.

    Highly recommended!

Food is still fantastic, but I much preferred the experience before they moved to the prix fixe model. I would love to be able to go there and not be required to pay for an appetizer or dessert, but unless you sit at the bar (which I do like to do) you have to get all three.

Again, the food is top notch and the service is excellent, I just preferred it when it was a la carte.

We went for a party of 11 and the restaurant was prepared for our gathering (there was a reservation made well in advance). The food was absolutely worth the price and the limited menu gives chefs the ability to focus on quality ingredients and easily changing the menu. The staff were excellent and helpful in every way. The kitchen definitely did a great job keeping up with 11 orders, my dairy restriction, and a friend’s nut allergy. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for something different and high quality.

I explained that I needed no dairy and I didn’t have to worry about anything after that, the chef took care to fix everything with that in mind. That shows they care about the customers experience and I appreciate that.

Atmosphere is nice and service was good. Food was above average. Issue I had was the pricing. There is only one option for a menu with fixed pricing starting at $65/person. We don’t eat dessert but stuck paying for it. Way way over priced for the quality. Two dinners, two glasses of house wine and a house cocktail with tip was $250. Taste and quality would have been equivalent to a dinner that all in for two should have cost a max of $120.

I ordered a tip of the tongue for my starter drink. For my courses:1. duck leg, 2: short rib, 3 “candybar” with a Candymaker peanut butter milk stout.

Amazing food, amazing service. The very best experience I have Had in RVA. Thank you. Everything was perfect. The duck was succulent, the short rib fell apart perfectly, and the deconstructed “Candybar” was out of this world. Mark was perfect with the suggestions, and the kitchen was perfect with the course timing. All around amazing. I cannot Thank y’all enough.

  44. Larry Shuemake 2022/02

I loved the atmosphere, customer service and alcoholic drinks! If we’re paying $75 per person, please do not serve water from the tap, it was gross.
The tuna tartare was amazing but the crispy pork wasn’t crispy. It was dry, bland, and just overall unpleasant. The flavor pairing for this plate was a bit strange as well with the potato salad and ginger whatever on the side. I still gave a $50 tip but I will not recommend and definitely will not return. Almost forgot…I tasted my wife’s fried broccoli and it was meh (okay). It goes from meh to really good when you add the sauce. But a smear of sauce will not cover the serving that’s given so back to being meh. Her steak was also dry and flavorless.

Food was phenomenal. It’s very close to 5 star food no question. Cocktails were 5 star as well. Phenomenal duck breast. Perfect tuna tartare. Great desserts.

Why I’m only going 4 stars though. Reservation was for 6:15, actual seating was 6:45. The dessert course got lost and ended up about 30 minutes between main and dessert. And lastly tuna steak was cooked medium well. It was still super tasty, but that’s too much for tuna.

My husband and I booked Heritage for our rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding, and it was some of the best food, service, and ambiance we’ve ever had. We had about 60 people in the restaurant, which was the perfect number…full but not crowded. Emilia and all of the staff were so wonderful to work with for every part of the process, they made it easy and stress-free! Every single guest loved the fabulous food and specialty cocktails, we got so many compliments about this restaurant. Many guests said they would want to come back to Richmond just to eat here. My husband and I will be lifelong fans of Heritage, it honestly could not have been a better experience! Thank you for your wonderful work!

Our first visit to Heritage was for brunch today. Every mouthful was amazing, and service was excellent. We shall return the next time we are in Richmond. By all means, go to Heritage if you can get in!!

  72. Dave Watts 2020/02

Heritage Restaurant is a very nice, stylish, New American restaurant on Richmond’s Main Street. It’s very crowded on Saturdays, so either have a reservation or be willing to wait an hour for walk-in seating – that’s what we did. There’s plenty to do to keep yourself occupied on Main St for an hour.

Cocktails seem to be a big thing here. I almost got one, but chose an Oxbow “Surfer Rossa” blood orange farmhouse ale at the last minute. My partner had the Cosmic Answer and liked it quite a bit. No wine, since we’d already had drinks before dining, but there was a decent list.

There aren’t too many vegetarian dishes listed on the menu, but the chef is willing to make some changes. We started with fried broccoli and a local mixed greens salad. The salad was good. Nothing spectacular – there’s only so much you can do with mixed greens – but still satisfying. The fried broccoli, on the other hand, was spectacular. My partner, who HATES broccoli, loved it. The broccoli is fried very lightly, with a bit of char but no batter or anything like that. The broccoli itself is soft, without the normal crunch you get from broccoli, but the frying gives it a little crunch on the outside. Very good! This was probably the best dish.

For main courses, we got the burger and the housemade kale gemelli pasta. I was surprised to see a burger on the menu, but it’s a big draw, and optionally made with an Impossible Burger. They can even make it fully vegan, with vegan cheese and a different bun, but we like real cheddar cheese and brioche buns, so we had it with those. It’s a very good, and big, burger, with lots of fries. The only possible complaint is that it was too big and filling! The pasta was pretty interesting, with a lot of different ingredients, on par with but not better than the better DC pasta joints.

To wrap things up, we had a very rich “chocolate bar” with Nutella ice cream. I don’t usually like desserts that sweet, but I really enjoyed this. I was pretty full by then, though.

The service was really good all around, from the seating to the waitress. We followed her recommendations on the broccoli among other things, and she didn’t steer us wrong.

  74. Brian Forrester 2020/01

One of the most professional and friendly bar and waitstaff I’ve encountered anywhere. Chef Joe is always cooking up fantastic food and the cocktail menu is always fresh. They also have a pretty good bourbon selection with new additions all the time.

    Sunday Brunch.

    Cocktails: -/5
Excellent. I had a bloody mary, which I personally wasn’t a huge fan of. However, my fiance and my friend both got cocktails which they said they enjoyed. I have no doubt their cocktails are well done. So I won’t comment on their cocktails until I give them a 2nd try.

    Food: 5/5 – Fantastic
Fantastic. Pancakes. Don’t get me wrong, the ham hash was good as well. But… I have been looking for a quality pancake for over a year. I tried looking for pancakes at local restaurants, chain restaurants, and even making them at home (both from scratch and from a mix). I couldn’t find a pancake to satisfy my craving until I came to Heritage.

Their pancakes are wonderful, fluffy pillows of heaven served on a plate with a sweet and creamy honey butter and maple syrup. For me, the pancake is the foundation of a pancake breakfast. No amount of butter or maple syrup make up for a poorly made pancake foundation, and Heritage pancakes did not disappoint. It is worth getting a side order, regardless of whatever else you order.

    The hash:
Potatoes were perfectly crispy and salty, but soft on the inside. I’m of the opinion that a perfectly crisp and salted potato is hard to come by, and Heritage does a perfect job. To add to that, the hollandaise sauce was wonderfully creamy and the eggs were perfectly poached. Just some moderate pressure with the blunt edge of my fork rewarded me with the golden waterfall of egg yolk onto my mixture of crisp potatoes and ham. Every bite tasted perfectly seasoned with the hollandaise sauce, the saltiness of the ham and potatoes.

Meat and potatoes is incredibly filling. I could only eat maybe 25% of my hash. You won’t be leaving this restaurant dissatisfied. Bring a hungry stomach.

Service: 5/5 – Polite and Attentive
I used to poo-poo the need for good service since I tend be very tolerant of good/bad/mediocre service. (“Bad service means good food!” I used to say). However, I’ve changed my viewpoint on this. Heritage had wonderful service. Our waiter was kind, patient, and available. He did a good job of ensuring we were cared for without being overburdening. Our waters were filled at appropriate intervals, our wait times were low, and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the offerings. He had the entire beer selection memorized. I was very impressed. We had a lovely experience and our waiter was a critical part of our pleasant meal.

Atmosphere 5/5 – Clean, Modern, Elegant
Clean, earthy, well-lit. It is a very family-friendly atmosphere. There are beautiful, modern paintings on the walls. The bar and other furnishings are made of a dark wood. It is an elegant and modern establishment.

Price: 5/5 – Worth the money
Considering the fare and quality of service, brunch is fairly affordable. They had a limited menu when we visited the restaurant, which ranged between $12-$18. Cocktails are in the $10 range. Their dinner menu, which I have yet to try, is more expensive.

Overall: 5/5 – Absolutely worth trying.

I will absolutely be coming to this restaurant again and trying their dinner options. Brunch was a big win. It is somewhere I consider bringing out of town visitors for an enjoyable meal, or on a date.

Delicious, stellar, amazing food with a classy casual ambiance and wonderful service.

  78. Ruth Gray 2019/12

My favorite restaurant in Richmond! Whenever I have a special dinner, I have everyone come here and it has NEVER disappointed! Looking for somewhere delicious and local? HIGHLY recommend checking out Heritage; you won’t be sorry you did!

  79. Thomas Bannard 2019/12

Joe and the team at Heritage treated us so well. We asked Joe to host a group of students in recovery for an end of year dinner. Joe created a delicious tasting menu including a menu of alcohol free drinks that were delicious and the staff was incredible in addressing food allergies and creating an awesome atmosphere. Several of our students had never eaten at a restaurant this nice and were blown away by the experience. Joe continues to not only be a tremendous chef and professional but gives back to the community (especially the recovery community) in wonderful ways.

  80. Kevin Hutchings 2019/12

Overall, the food and service at the table was exceptional. However, we had a reservation at noon, and although the hostess looked at us twice, she said nothing until 5 after noon, at which point we had been there for more than 10 minutes. I will return, but greetings at the door is a first impression.

Very good. Really enjoyed the bar before dinner. Good veggie entree for wife, and not mushroom based. Rockfish (see pic) was tasty.
Updated November 2019: Still good! I enjoyed the fried broccoli and oysters. There was still both vegetarian and vegan options for my family members

I had lunch this past Friday, and I should have refused to accept the food served me, but I was entertaining an elderly friend and didn’t want to cause a scene. What we were served was nothing like what was described on the menu. It was not edible. As the host, I was embarrassed. I will never eat at The Heritage again.

  88. B Hurley 2019/10

The food here was really good. The fried oyster appetizer was really good but $13. The fried broccoli was good too at $7. The beer was another story. They do not have draft beer at all. To make it worse they don’t even have chilled glasses so you either drink from a can or pour it into a warm glass. Athough the response below suggests you can ask for one, I did (for the lager, not for the stout of course) and was told they weren’t available. When we got the check and saw that it was nearly $100 for 4 beers and 4 appetizers we realized that the founders beer we had ordered was $12 per bottle…no kidding. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars but the server was great which pushed it over the top.

  89. Craig Long 2019/10

    Their food was amazing.

I was looking for bar to drink. As soon as I entered the restaurant, food looks FABULOUS and smell so good. I really like this place as people who work in the shop are super nice, and pretty good at their job. Don’t need to wait long time and clean environment. Good to visit once in month.

Fantastic food and drinks, and be ready to pay accordingly! The food is excellently prepared and the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. If you’re looking for a great date spot or a delectable bite to eat, look no further.

  92. David Davis 2019/10

Pimento croquettes are great, smoked fish dip is very good, fried oysters I could take or leave, pasta was flavorful but over priced. I prefer a more intimate atmosphere than they provide. Server was very skilled but the order got confused. If I do go back, it will be for the premium cocktails

  93. Lucas Hall 2019/09

    Great service and amazing food!

  94. Jeff Miller 2019/09

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Went for maybe the 10th time recently and had a stellar meal and stellar service. It was the server Brittany’s first day. She was great, well informed, pleasant, funny….an all around good time. Heritage isn’t cheap, but I’m always happy to pair for excellence.

Every time we’re in town we come here! I have literally no complaints or ideas about anything they could do better. The staff is very welcoming and attentive and the space is cute. Everything I’ve had here has been great and when we’ve recommended it to people they’ve loved it too.

  99. Jason Gonzalez 2019/09

What a fabulous spot for a night out with friends. Little Indian has a modern, attractive decor and laid out so so that sight-lines are restricted, which makes for a more intimate dining experience.3 of us went here for dinner. Great decor and great service . The meals were delicious. Hubby had a lamb vindaloo and I had tandoori chicken.

  103. Carl Lynn 2019/08

Arrived a few minutes early for our 7:30 reservation and our table was waiting for us. Off to a good start. Our wait person, Marley, was prompt, efficient and courteous. We ordered the Croquettes appetizer ($6) and they were superb, The salad ($11) was huge and extremely fresh. For our entrees, we had the Mahi ($28) and the Hanger Steak ($29). Both were cooked perfectly and come with unique Asian style toppings. A different spin from the ordinary. Both were washed down with a glass of chardonnay (Loire-$10) and a glass of California Cab ($12). The wine list is almost totally devoid of non-U.S. offerings. The Malbec was not from Argentina as one would expect to see. All-in-all, Heritage offers a unique spin on fine dining.

american food and the atmosphere here is very good. Came here on a Saturday. Certainly worth going back to.

  109. woon ha 2019/08

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Richmond, I had bolognese topped with fresh foie gras yesterday, and it was unbelievable. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, though I do wish the restaurant made the foie one of their main courses. The only downside is that the portions are incredibly small for the price. Also didn’t like the chicken liver pate.

  110. Korrie Koko 2019/08

The interior is tastefully laid out. Dark wood, grey color scheme, open concept makes great use of a small space. The flatware that is not white is made by a local ceramic artist. I think their bar display could use some lights. Their menu is printed on a 8.5×11 paper, but the controlled menu indicates that any item is a quality pick. Not a sizeable menu that overwhelms with variety, but offering brunch staples and a few custom picks.

  111. Carolyn Moomaw Chilton 2019/07

Food is beautifully presented, creative and very good. Service was excellent. I thought the appetizers and desserts were small and overpriced.

  112. Abby Knuff 2019/07

Went here for brunch and everything was beyond yummy. I’d recommend making reservations as it’s small in there and tables fill up quickly. We couldn’t decide what to get (too many good choices!) so we went splitsies on the big vegan hash and the chicken & waffles. HIGHLY recommend both. And our waitress was just about the nicest person I’ve met!

  113. Jon Osborn 2019/07

    Always amazing

  114. bruce fingerhut 2019/07

Really surprised at the ratings this place is getting… service was very good, but the food was very average for the price. The hummus, very so-so…they made a great old-fashioned, but the dirty martini was watered down, and… i dunno… terrible. we ordered the tuna tartar, for a table of four of us, and they only brought 3 crackers!! LOL… are you kidding me?!?! the other dishes were very unmemorable…

  115. Gloria Banks 2019/07

Great staff, great food! We were there for a private event that reserved the whole restaurant but despite the large group size, the food was hot , well prepared and served at each table at the same time. They were open to adjusting for food allergies as each meal is prepared to order. I was amazed at how efficient they were in handling a group that filled them to maximum capacity and all on the same schedule. If they did that great during a challenging event, I can’t wait to come back again.

  116. Sandy Brassard 2019/06

  117. Parrish Padgett 2019/06

  118. Christine Pittman 2019/06

The service was truly great. The food was good. Loved the fresh made pasta dish and flat iron steak entrees. The snacks we ordered were fine: The pimento croquettes were very comforting if a bit greasy, the smoked fish dip tasted a bit funky, the pork fries were fun. The management was very prompt and thorough in addressing the issue below from our original review, which we greatly appreciate. All in all, we were definitely glad that we got the chance to eat here!

(Original review: I can’t rate the food or service because we weren’t seated. Their hours on their website and on google state that they’re open until 10:00pm. We arrived at 9:02pm and were told that they had decided to close early that night. We had ubered there and had to then Uber elsewhere. It was disappointing and it cost us money. If you decide to dine here, don’t trust the posted hours and be sure to call ahead or make a reservation.)

Checked out Heritage for brunch and I’ll definitely be returning! The food is so so good, and if you are a pancake person like me, I’d definitely recommend getting some of these! They were amazing and fluffy, just like I like ’em! Just a heads up, brunch was packed! We had reservations but, could see all the people waiting for seats so make sure you call ahead or plan to wait! With that being said, our server was awesome and checked on us frequently! If brunch isn’t your thing, they have a great drink selection as well, so if you are just looking for a different atmosphere to grab some drinks

The booth by the door, next to the front windows are a tight fit. They have maximized their space with tables and seating for guest. So if it’s a full house it will feel like a full house. This placed seems to be very popular. You are treated like a VIP once you step inside. Our server was excellent. She knew the entire menu & drinks menu. The drink she suggested was delicious. In fact I had 2 of them🍹
Loved the specialty names for their signature drinks. The food was great. The portions filled me up. Very very nice place for an evening with friends or family. Staff seem to work well together. It was all smiles from everyone. Totally enjoyed my visit and would recommend stopping in.

Haven’t been in a while and after tonight I’m sorry that it’s been so long since my last visit. The duck breast and tuna tartare dishes were exceptional, but everything we had was delicious. Highly recommend this Richmond staple, and I won’t be waiting as long as I did last time to come back.

Food was good and service was attentive. Definitely recommended the fried broccoli. Great craft cocktails.

  132. Chip Dell 2019/03

A Richmond restaurant with serious chops. The tuna tartar is delightfully complex with a different experience in every bite. One of my favorite plates in town. Even the crackers we’re fantastic! I also had the impossible burger with cheddar cheese instead of the regular vegan cheese. The “meat” did not disappoint and lived up to the name. The service was warm, knowledgeable, and fully attentive without being even remotely intrusive. Finally, we noticed one of the owners of Tomten Farms at the restaurant conversing with the chef. It is gratifying to not only support a local restaurant, but to know that you are also supporting other local businesses, too. Well done Heritage, we shall return.

  133. Maegan Hodge 2019/03

We’ve been here probably 10 times over the last few years. This is easily the most consistently excellent restaurant in Richmond. The drinks are always perfect, the service always delightful and unobtrusive, and the food always excellent. Almost always amazing. The worst thing I can say is one time the duck was a touch chewy. Go here immediately. There are too many restaurants in Richmond maybe, but don’t forget about this absolute gem.

First time visit for brunch and no complaints. Great service. Timely delivery of food. Pretty casual atmosphere.
Ordered the Vegan Mess. It was delightful. Was PLENTY of food, def have leftovers for another full meal. A bit heavy on craft beers and cocktails, so was glad for the Staff Beer option…Lions Head with a Heritage koozie.

Went for NYE supper and it was absolutely excellent. Staff was on point the entire night and handled a large crowd expertly. Took extra care to ensure our food was the way we wanted and even changed my dish to leave out dairy as requested! Always love going to Heritage and can’t wait to go back!

“The love child of an Irish Coffee and a Mexican Hot Cocoa”. This is how Michael described this drink to me and he couldn’t have put it better. The Arbaxas is just that, giving you both a sweet kick and little fire. I enjoyed mine with a chocolate tart. I love any place where the service is as good, warm and engaging as the food. Heritage is that place and for me, Michael made the experience. He treated me as if I were a guest in his home. I have every reason to return and I shall. Props to Michael and Cassie for their attentiveness during such a busy hour.

  148. Jack Ulmer 2018/12

Went for Sunday brunch and had a wonderful time with my family.

Brunch drinks are reasonably priced and are exactly what you would expect to have at brunch, light and refreshing.

The food was good and have great portions offered for the price point they are presented at. The pancakes were large and fluffy which is a great sign that the batter was not over mixed which is a common problem breakfast makers face. I personally ordered the ramen bowl, while the noodles are good the bowl could do with more ham and shredding the ham was an interesting choice that I didn’t necessarily agree with but the added salt to the bowl (from the ham) made it tasty nonetheless.

The service was also nice with attentive and friendly staff which should be especially commended for the crowd that they are always contenting with. The only real detriment to the experience was halfway through the meal they began playing overly loud music that didn’t exactly fit the brunch vibe and it kind of brought down the feeling of being in a cafe for lunch, and replaced it with just your average joint. But in the end Heritage still solidly earns its 4 stars.

  149. N 2018/12

really amazing brunch spot. the portions are huge, it’s a really good value. and i had the BEST PANCAKE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE here. have you ever taken a bite of something and thought, “this is undoubtedly the best of (whatever food it is) I’ve ever had”? that’s what their pancakes are like!! the humble pancake, very simple, easy to make, you wouldn’t expect much… but I was actually taken aback by how incredible this pancake was. seriously!! the big hot mess, biscuits & gravy, chicken & waffles are all also delicious, and again the portion sizes make you feel like you’re getting a great value.

  150. Doug Keadle 2018/12

The place was full but the four of us could still carry on a conversation. Our waiter, Cate, was great. Best of all was the food! Wife had the soft shell crab and enjoyed it. My monk fish was even better than the rock fish we had shared our first time here. Fried broccoli is a must have. This is our most favorite restaurant in Richmond – more enjoyable than the famous hotel.

I came here for a private catered event and found that they had really unique, interesting dishes that were very satisfying. Lots of vegetarian options.

  157. Stephanie H. 2018/10

I expected a pleasant experience after reading the online reviews before my visit; my expectations were well surpassed.

Parking was pretty easy to find within a block of the restaurant. As soon as we walked through the door, I felt the welcoming invitation of a home-like, cozy atmosphere.

Stephanie was our server and did a phenomenal job. She was friendly, patient and and the perfect level of attentive. She informed us of the specials (which sounded wonderful). We ended up ordering two “snacks”, which are supposed to be half sized appetizers but were actually pretty generous for the prices. The pickle plate and pork “fries” were both excellent.

Entrees were really what put the entire experience over the top. There were three of us, so I was lucky enough to try their meals. I had the bucatini which had broccolini, ham and giant pieces of crab. I added burrata, which was oh so good. On the table, we also had duck breast and garganelli w/a poached egg. Everything invoked a little squeal of delight when the food hit our tongues for the first time. I’m ready to make my way through the rest of the menu.

Not to be forgotten were also the excellent cocktails. Stephanie did a great job explaining the cocktail list. We each tried something different and were highly impressed with all. You really can’t go wrong at this place.

  158. Sean Lee 2018/10

The most legit brunch and dinner I’ve had in Richmond so far. I am sure there are better places but Heritage set the bar pretty high .

  159. Jessica Swenson 2018/10

Amazing atmosphere and kind, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. Food is both beautiful and delicious. Definitely a Richmond favorite. Will be returning regularly!

  160. Christine Stone 2018/10

Best dinner we’ve had in a while. Menu is elegant, simple, and the dishes deliver rich and bold flavors. Even the dessert was a knock out. The price is also just right, not too expensive for the same high quality that you find at other restaurants. We will be back- hopefully sooner than later.

  161. Moncia Br 2018/09

Most definitely a place to visit!!!

  162. Gary Finch 2018/09

Courses piled on us. Cheeseboard mostly consisted of rind. This place has declined significantly in the last 4 months.

  163. Mere 2018/09

This place is an absolutely delightful showcase of farm-to-table seasonal gourmet cooking, and I am consistently blown away by how amazing the food is here. It’s always wonderful to have a place that takes as much care as it does, and that I know will pay the same attention to vegetarian entrees as omnivorous, without making them seem contrived. Even with a reasonably short menu, I always struggle with what sounds best, but i am never disappointed. Take friends, try everything.

  164. Michael Goddard 2018/09

I enjoyed a nice meal with my wife and friends. Good cocktail selection. Food was great as well. Busy and fun on a Saturday night.

  165. Aaron Brenner 2018/09

Best drinks, amazing vibe, wonderful people and service. My favorite place in town, whether I want to go hang at the bar or bring friends and sit. Also they have the best ramen in town (for brunch only).

  166. Alex Strauch 2018/09

Delicious brunch menu – I tried the pancakes, challah toast, and Catfish with Gritz. The challah being served as a toast with honey butter is genius. Also their pancake batter is fluffy but firm, I like it!

My main dish was a great combination, they serve the catfish in a medium batter so it’s not too indulgent but doesn’t wilt away in your cheddar grits. It also had an awesome green tomato salsa that added nice acidity to the dish. Absolutely great brunch!

  167. Jamie K 2018/09

Excellent food, great employees! Too many tables were packed into the small dining area, making it difficult for the employees and people exiting/entering to move around

  171. Woogiemaster 2018/08

My dining expectations were low apon arrival and spotting my family. Once seated I did my best to stay low and stay out of the conversation field of view. Though just after ordering the family seemed to telepathically agree that it was time to start the anticipated interigation, shaming, and roast. After only a few minutes I could feel my blood boiling and wanted to walk out. Right when I reached my peak of anger the waitress comes over like an angel delivering the food. Though the harassment and put downs continued I hardly payed attention because of how well the duck I ordered was. In fact I must say it was one of the single best dishes I have had in the city.
    To the chef and staff,
    thank you

Very nice atmosphere and eclectic menu, the cocktail menu had many interesting options. Enjoyed the appetizer/snack menu Pimento cheese, Broccoli, Shrimp chips and Pork fries all worth a try. Every entree dish seems to have an ingredient twist that sets it off from plates elsewhere and all in our party were pleased. Service was helpful and friendly, if a little bit slow so plan on an extended evening, but well worth a visit.

Great little restaurant off the main street in Richmond. Food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was great for a Wednesday night. Definitely make reservations beforehand as this place can get super busy in the evenings. My duck was cooked to perfection and I’ll be sure to stop by here again if I’m ever in the area.

Fantastic Sunday brunch. Mary was an amazing server, attentive and sophisticated. Highly recommended.

  175. Greg Tyler 2018/07

Small menu. Everything is cooked fantastically. There’s always some subtle flavor that I can’t quite put my finger on. One thing though, I asked for a rum&coke, and they originally made it with Malibu. Who makes a Cuba libre with god damn Malibu?

  176. Doug H 2018/07

Great experience, atmosphere and excellent food!

Good eclectic menu. Our bacon. Homemade sorbet and ice cream

I have such mixed feelings about Heritage. The food is amazing and definitely earns Heritage a place on our date night rotation, but I’ve never felt welcome at the restaurant. When you come in the door there’s no hostess area and nobody greets you, so you have to kind stand around awkwardly until a server has time to come over and ask if you have a reservation (don’t even think about coming without one).

So if you can come ready to laugh ironically at how little the staff seems to want you there, you’ll at least have yummy food to help you through it! Their menu is very seasonal so everything is fresh, and their cocktails are usually on the strong side. I recommend any of the pasta dishes.

I love this place. Always really spot on. The brunch is really delicious as well. Great drinks and awesome staff.

  180. James Murphy 2018/06

I visited heritage last week for a friends birthday brunch and I was thoroughly unimpressed. It was myself my wife and my daughter my daughter got pancakes, simple hard to screw up they were fine .. my wife got french toast, again simple relatively hard to screw up but burnt .. and I got the “hot mess” I think it was pork belly, potatoes, cheese, and something else possbly although all I really remember is the salt and the thing is I love salt … but that is not what I ordered and eventually paid … too much for .. but it wasn’t for me it was for my friend’s birthday and that is why I am …ok dropping $65+tip on something Denny’s could do (better probably) for $20. So for her I will add one star to my rating but between you and me it was only worth 2

The service and the food was great! A real recommendation!

  182. Stephen Shanks 2018/05

My favorite with great bartenders who will mix or pour what you’re in the mood for, great serve staff, and creative, fresh, local menu

  183. Joshua Woodard 2018/05

The food, drinks and service was spectacular! The hanger steak was delicious and had the perfect tenderness and consistency.

  184. Scott Beckett 2018/05

The hot new kid is aging quite gracefully into one of the city’s stalwarts. The food continues to be inventive but approachable. The drinks program is top notch in a town that continues to raise the bar. The space is comfy and inviting. The continued crowds are a testament to the sustained excellence on display here.

  185. Geoff Wilson 2018/05

Man, ALL of that really hit the spot before starting my 24hrs of flights with the last family hurrah. We ordered 4 dishes all to split amongst ourselves, the duck confit hash, chicken and waffles, Nutella french toast, and rockfish on grits…. Every single one was perfect in it’s own way. They’ve also got a lot of great brunch/lunch cocktails to treat yourself. We got lucky today without there being a wait due to a town food festival, but I’ve heard that otherwise it’s usually pretty busy. Will definitely come back one day.

Heritage is a great place to stop at for amazing eats and libations. The staff are all talented from the kitchen to the bar. The food has always been cooked to perfection and plated well, almost so well that I didn’t want to disrupt it. I love the formation and color schemes of the dishes as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant. The servers are very personable/knowledgeable and will do their best on your every visit to make sure that you are well taken care of and happy. We have been a handful of times, either sitting at the bar or at various tables. Every time that we indulged at a table we were WELL taken care of by the awesome server Stephanie. She is quick, never forgotten or mixed up an order and very informative. At the bar we have had a mix of tenders’…Matt, Bridget, and the bar manager Lindsey. The mixology is strong with this crew. Thank you for multiple stellar experiences Heritage!!

Brunch was alright, but not a Richmond gourmet cornerstone. Couple be more imaginative.

  194. Chip LaFleur 2018/03

Excellent experience here all around. The rock fish entree was great, the tuna tartar appetizer was really unique and outstanding.

Their staff was really helpful and had a comprehensive understanding of the menu, making great suggestions based on the feedback and comments from our party.

I loved the atmosphere also, lively enough to be fun but not so loud as to make other people in the party inaudible.

Fantastic cocktails and food. Don’t miss their happy hour specials

  196. Mary Jordan Siebert (rvamary) 2018/03

We had very early reservations, I’m pretty sure that is necessary on the weekends. Great atmosphere, and our server was really good at her job. I have an acquaintance who worked here for years, and she enjoyed it- which means a lot to me…being in the business.
The pork belly was a dream. Melts in your mouth, with a great smokey flavor. The charcuterie plate is well worth it, as is the squash soup. I had the garlic shrimp pasta, and I could have it every night for a week and not get tired of it.
Overall, this was a definite win.

One of my top five favorite places in Richmond. Timmy the bartender is awesome! He made my sister a drink that she’s still talking about, it’s been almost three years.

    Quality beyond words

My wife and I tried The Heritage for our 25th Anniversary dinner. The people were great from the minute we were greeted by Rebecca at the door. They were full and she offered us a place at the bar where Justin made my wife a great cocktail. We were sat at a booth shortly there after and were greeted by Michael. My wife is vegan and so is Michael and he took the time to go over many options for my wife. We each had appetizers and the timing was spot on for our entres. They came out hot, fresh and really really good. To top off an excellent dining experience the chef sent out desert for each of us for our anniversary.
A truly great experience! You need to experience it.
    Thank you Heritage!

  213. LaVaniel 2017/09

I went here recently for dinner and really enjoyed it. Our server was very friendly and gave us some excellent recommendations. The pork belly was tender and flavorful and I especially enjoyed the duck. Such a cornucopia of flavors! My only recommendation would be to get a table unless you’re a very slim person, as the booths were rather tight.

  214. Lisa Galanis 2017/09

Wow… the drinks were great but the service was surly. I wouldn’t bother going back.

Small and cozy, menu is short and simple. Overall entree’s are tad salty. I had the duck hash, which the meat and potatoes are both salty. Overall price to portion size is acceptable. Pictures include mimosas (other one is with grapefruit) also omelette, big hot mess. Friendly staff, just overall salty taste on personal preference.

Service was great; however, food was horrible. all the food taste the same. If you like pork and fried food then this is your place. Food taste like bar food at 2 am. I wish I could rate negative 0. Lousy food and exlensive.

  246. Adam Torborg 2017/01

You can tell that a lot of passion goes into crafting a menu and hard work goes into creating the best dishes possible. I had high hopes coming into dinner, and I was blown away. The menu is relatively short, but I wanted to try one of everything on it.

  247. Jean Stoll 2016/12

Amazing bartenders, and unique delicious food. I will 100% return when I come back through Richmond!!! I also appreciated that I didn’t need a reservation for dinner on a week night.

  248. Kim Bryan 2016/12

This place has a magical feel! American classics molded into a fine dining feel and cravable appetizers make the menu shine. Pre-prohibition style craft cocktails with interesting names are the highlight.

  249. Joe Felton 2016/12

A little late on the review as my wife and I ate there Saturday night. I can tell you that I have not stopped thinking about the awesome experience. One of the best dining experiences I have had in my 15 years of living in Richmond. From the phenomenonal servers to the personal greeting from the chef, it could not have been a better experience for my wife and I. I can’t wait to get back. For out of towners, give it a visit. For locals, continue supporting this fantastic restaurant because they do it right.

    Cheers to Heritage

Ps – give Roosevelt and Southbound a go as well.

  250. Ho Anh 2016/11

It was a wet and not so stormy night. My friends were all juiced up on great beer at great prices from a restaurant that seemingly still serves bland Vietnamese food (Ref: Mekong).

When we finally got to our table, it felt like the planets were in perfect alignment. The place was packed. We didn’t have a reservation. But luckily, there was a no-show on the reservation list. Boom. Seated in 5 minutes.

The shrimp crackers. Yeah, those were just overpriced shrimp chips you can get at any Asian grocery store. Not worth the $2. The cheese platter was kinda..ok? I wasn’t too impressed. But I’m into super crazy cheeses; I’m down with smelly ones as well. So I’m sure, for cheese-noobs, it would have been fine.

The service was pretty damn good. The hostess was fine with giving us a table from a late reservation. You can’t make the rest of the world late for you. And the server, Michael…I mean, damn. Super friendly. Knew his stuff (my friend has a food allergy. and he went off to name ALL of the things she could and couldn’t eat on the main menu and the desert menu).

I did learn a little bit about myself as well. Michael described the “staff beer” as a creamy beer, and I wanted to try that considering that I just had a bunch of super-hella-hoppy beers swimming around in my stomach. So creamy, to me, now means Bud Lite, which is awful beer. But it wasn’t Bud Lite though; it looked and sounded local. My friends’ cocktails were much better. The bartenders there looked knowledgeable and professional, like the ones you see in Mad Men.

I had the symphony of meat: the beef burger with pork loin added to it. It was as if they took God’s animal-children and made a genetically-superior-bionic superhuman. Add some crazy-fresh greens and jams and BAM, your mouth is paralyzed in an ocean of anesthetic animal protein.

The fries were all even cooked, crispy, and as a fresh as a Krispy Kreme donut when they turn on the light. I forgot what the dipping sauce was, but it puts ketchup to shame.

The brown money shot was the Nutella ice cream. It was smooth & sweet. Choice.

I did have a discussion with the table next to us about whether we’d go back here again. This place is great, but I’m not sure if I would frequent it much. To me, it seems like a special-occasion restaurant. Mother’s Day, Birthdays, reaching adulthood, etc. The table was filled with older adults, and their occasion was that they hadn’t seen each other for a few months.

Well, that sounds pretty special to me. This experience was indeed that. There’s something magnificent about celebrating the life of friends and realizing that you’ve known them for more than a 1/3 of your life. Happy Brithday, An.

Amazing food.. can get very crowded so reservations are a recommended

  252. Jason Teichert 2016/09

Horrible service. We were told a 15 minute wait for the bar or 45 minute for a table. We elected for the table and stood there while they seated people who did not have reservations before us. I clearly heard the other patrons tell the hostess they did not have reservations and were swept away to a both in less than 5 minutes.

  253. John Grygalonis 2016/09

Service was good but the meal that I got wasn’t good. i talked to the server and she took it back. The manager came over and asked what was wrong. I told her that the meal didn’t taste good. She asked what else I wanted and I told her. Next i know the chef came out of the kitchen and told me that i was rude. I have never had a chef come out of the kitchen and say that to me. Very inappropriate and unprofessional for someone to do that. I was with my family and it was embarrassing to say the least. Will I go back. No thanks.

  254. Chad Williams 2016/07

Consistently voted one of the best restaurants and chefs in Richmond.

Simply put, one of the most outstanding restaurants in Richmond. Every aspect of dining here is notable, from perfect service and friendly staff, to exquisite cocktails, and absolutely flawless cuisine. I would absolutely put Heritage as a “must visit” on your list in RVA. Every single experience that I’ve had here is exceptional. Don’t miss the charcuterie platter, any of the house made pastas, and whatever ice cream is on that night.

The food is top notch, from concept to execution. The service is consistently outstanding – and don’t forget the “mixologists” that serve up some of the best craft cocktails in the area.

Unquestionably one of my top 5 restaurants in RVA, even with the continuing emergence of really, really good ones opening up.

  267. Roger Leek 2016/01

Atmosphere is hip, cocktails are excellent. The pork fries are amazing. My wife and I had rockfish and hangar steak entrees, both were terrific. We’ll be back!

My wife and I dined at Heritage last Saturday. We’ve eaten at Heritage at least a half dozen times. Both the food and service are always wonderful! Joe, Emilia and their staff are great! We don’t get down to Richmond as often as we’d like but we always make a point of eating there. Heritage is easily our favorite restaurant! We highly recommend it to anyone who loves excellent food and friendly, gracious service.

  269. Aaron Waxman 2016/01

One of Richmond’s best, but then they were voted as one of Richmond’s best. It went to their head a little bit. Still good, though.

  270. Lindsey Slough Chitwood 2016/01

With no reservation, our group of four braved the crowds and arrived right before the madness around 11:00 AM on Sunday. With a table reserved for a 12:00 PM reservation, the staff graciously sat us immediately and gave excellent and efficient service to meet their high demands. This was my first time at this restaurant and was enamored by the menu’s twist of southern classics. My personal choice was the Big Hot Mess, with the poached egg of course. This protein packed meal ended up being two meals for me, and they were just as good the second go round. These dishes are never short of doing acrobatics for your taste buds. I highly recommend exploring this menu and branching out of your comfort zone, you will not regret it. If nothing else calls me back to Richmond, it will certainly be the Heritage and its’ lovely staff.

  271. Cole Bushby 2015/09

Boom goes the Dynamite….as always here at Heritage. Started with the charcuterie and chef’s special tonight. Charceturie was delicious with an A+ presentation. The onion jam is something that can be single handedly praised. Summer sausage was spicy and refreshing all at the same time. The chef special appetizer plate was a take on indian salad with spicy sausage and curry. I’ll just say wow. I went for the Monkfish after that and was very pleased. Although the fish portion was a bit skimpy I understand why with such a creamy and filling risotto to pair it. The house made pasta that my girlfriend had was a perfect al dente and the sauce was extremely spectacular if you like a bit of spice. Sadly the shrimp were over done, but that did not take away from the dish. For dessert we enjoyed a cheesecake with a take i’ve never seen before and plated with a burnt meringue that was A+++. Overall you will never go wrong with Heritage. Great job guys.

  272. Michele McKnight 2015/07

Without a doubt, one of the top restaurants in Richmond. Food, Service, and Cocktails are consistently on point. The dinner and cocktail menus are always changing and becomes more creative and delicious with every new item. Not to be missed!

  273. C L 2014/12

Strong, post-moderne cuisine with an even stronger cocktail menu. Come here for good, expensive but well made craft cocktails, food and service.

  274. Neema A 2014/11

From food to cocktails to service, just an excellent experience!!

  275. Zack Woods 2014/05

What happens when you put a brother (Bar), sister (Front of House), and her husband (Back of House / Chef) in one place to discover their culinary heartbeat? Brilliance….and a place called Heritage.

Mattias, the kindly gent behind the bar, is mixing up cocktails that I can neither pronounce nor put down. I tended bar for two years after college at a nice spot in Columbia, worked with some pretty solid people during that time, and I don’t hesitate to say that none of them are worthy of holding the candle that lights this guy’s mixology recipe table. Order off the cocktail menu or just ask him to pick one of the five hundred or so recipes floating around in his head; you won’t be disappointed either way.

On the food front, Chef Sparatta is throwing down some damn love in the kitchen. I’ve tried everything from the pimiento croquettes and chicken liver pâté on the small plates, to the celery root gamelli pasta from the heavier side of things. These items (and I’m sure all of those in between) are too legit to quit. I also highly recommend the pork “fries” if you’re willing to sacrifice a slight LDL spike for a heavy dose of umami – yes, that is a word.

Then to round out the crew, FOH manager Mrs. Sparatta is ensuring that guests have a wonderful experience, complete with welcoming décor and a stellar staff. Seriously, the value of having competent, informed, caring staff is so undervalued in the industry and Heritage boasts what I would consider one of the best crews in Richmond. They aren’t wearing sauced up white shirts and ties, but they treat you like a real person and give a darn about your dining experience. Staffing is a hurdle for many that’s being cleared in true Olympian fashion at this place.

Overall, Heritage represents something special and something to aspire to if you’re into the whole inspiration thing. When three very talented, highly invested folks, e.g., the restaurant owners, are overseeing and managing the three main pillars of a restaurant’s infrastructure – Bar, FOH, BOH – that is more often than not a recipe for success. Pun party of one.

This is the first time I have ever reviewed a restaurant, but I felt the need to do so after the experience we had last night. I will not comment on the service because I feel that is a product of the server and not the restaurant. The largest issue I see with Heritage is the complete lack of value in the dish selection as every dish is significantly overpriced for the portion served. For example, the duck dish cost $19 for maybe 7 oz of duck (it was lukewarm and tasted quite bland). I agree with other reviews that their cocktails are good (still pricey), but I would dissuade friends from going. There are so many great restaurants in Richmond that offer significantly better value and I think just better food.

Been to Heritage a number of times. Great service, great food! Try the pork fries and smoked fish dip to start the meal. It’s awesome that Richmond continues to get good local places to eat!

The food was awesome and the cocktail list is amazing! Favorites were the Duck dish, the smoked fish dip and the chocolate desert bar. Everything that came off the cocktail list was delicious, some great seasonal drinks include Stark Words and Lions Tale.
We had some very metropolitan out of towners – from Philly – and even they were in love. We will absolutely go back. Just be sure to make a reservation, they get busy quickly!

I have been to Six Burner thrice – most recent visit was yesterday for Easter Supper with my wife. The food is pretty good usually – our only complaint is the amount of butter they seem to use. I am not sure if this is necessary for ‘fancy’ french cooking.

On two occasions the staff have bent over backwards to make us feel at home. My wife, who is a recent ‘veggie convert’, did not like the fish entrees she ordered on those two occasions. They replaced her dish at no extra cost, once with a delectable mixed vegetable entree and yesterday with a fish/gnocchi/vegetable combo. Apparently both of them were made impromptu but my wife thought they should be on the menu as a permanent fixture – they were that good !.

They have a very interesting cocktail and beer list as well. I will give them a 3.5- 4 for food. But a 5 for service !
