Sadly the food was terrible- tons of salt- so much gravy with the short ribs the risotto was inedible- pasta dish was just flavorless- the salmon dish was over cooked- the drinks were watery- the fig app was ok-the best thing was olive bread. The main ingredient in everything was salt- the bill was over $200 four four people, one drink each. Maybe it was a bad night? I know it was for us.

Updated review: Took another chance on Gersi take out and it was incredible. Last order had to of been a fluke. Received Togo order tonight—food was hot but lacked flavor and texture. Pappardelle Lamb Ragu noodles were overcooked and soggy. Chicken parm was not crispy as usual. Only two pieces of bread and beans had a strange taste. Pickup orders used to be great not sure I’ll do it again.

I do not leave reviews (this might even be my first?), but I was so overwhelmingly disappointed with our experience here last night that I wanted to warn others of this place. We just moved to RVA and this was our first experience out at a “nice” restaurant—but there was very little that was nice about it. My cacio e pepe was drowning in about 1/2-3/4 cup of olive oil, which made it inedible (truly—I could not eat more than two bites, it just tasted like olive oil with some pasta on the side). Our server, while nice, made a comment about how busy they were and how they were trying to move things along, which made us feel rushed (this happened when we were ordering, so we had been there for all of 10 minutes). Despite wanting to “move things along,” though, our meals came out ten minutes apart from each other. The playlist was top 40s pop and way too loud—not the vibe one looks for in a nice Italian restaurant! The cocktails were good and my partner and mother-in-law’s meals were edible (albeit mediocre), but overall, this was an incredibly disappointing experience, and we will not be back.

Me and 5 friends. 6 total, 3 couples. We made 7:30p reservations weeks in advance. Didn’t get seated until close to 8. I think they tried to push the group in front of us out but the “hey can you wrap up, we have a reservation after you” line always has the opposite effect.

Didn’t get food until close to 9, then they messed up the bill. We should’ve been more assertive asking for a comp on the drinks we ordered, but I also would’ve expected them to extend the offer since we made reservations and still waited for a table.

Loud, service is slow, crowded. It would make for a fun vibe if they weren’t constantly messing up orders (we had 3-4 dishes brought to us that were actually for other tables) and breaking dishes (seriously sounded like plates were getting smashed every 10 minutes.)

Probably one of the better places in Richmond for Italian. Which is really sad to say as I am giving them 3 stars.

Some of their pasta is fresh. After eating here for a few years and trying many dishes, I would say most is not. I am also 95% sure their mashed potatoes are from an instant mix – they are incredibly gritty and lack any texture.

In some aspects they are good, but unfortunately they just are not really great. They should be much better based on how much they charge per dish. Wine selection is ok, nothing remarkable.

You gotta take what you can get in Richmond!

Ordered from Gersi on a whim and it is literally one of the best decisions I’ve made in Richmond! Coming from Brooklyn myself, I’d imagine they can compete with any Italian restaurant in NYC. Every thing I ordered was handmade, delicious, and AUTHENTIC. Delivery is great, but if you dine in person you’ll get to see the daily specials menu.

Wishing this restaurant all the best, so I can eat here happily for years to come!

Went here for my birthday, did not make a reservation since it was early (5:30pm) on a non-descript Wednesday night but apparently they are always kinda busy so make a reservation regardless of what time or day it is. The hostess was very friendly and was able to seat us because a reservation never showed. The food was really good except for the Tiramisu! The grilled bronzino was excellent but the taglatelli portion was a little on the small side. I would definitely recommend to my friends just don’t get the tiramisu!

Really quaint place with fast paced but comfortable vibes. It feels like it should be bigger when you walk in, but that’s half the fun of it. You’re seated snuggly beside others at tables, enjoying some of the most delicious Italian food in the Richmond area. I got the tagliatelle bolognese and my husband got the lasagna special and it was *chefs kiss*. Highly recommend and will be back. It is worth noting that this restaurant is loud and bustling, so if you’re trying to have quiet conversation (we were not), it may not be the place for you.

Good not great. With an Italian grandmother, you become a bit biased about Italian restaurants. But this one was about as close to authentic as you can get in RVA for food. We had cacio e Pepe, eggplant pasta, and lamb ragu. Pasta was over cooked and there was too much cheese. But good enough. Bread starter was delicious. Prosciutto and melon… I don’t recommend. As for atmosphere… it’s cozy if not a bit cramped. The waitress was very nice but was extremely busy so service was average. Would I go again? Maybe.

I met up with friends for a girls night out. We ate in the enclosed space in front of the restaurant. This area has heaters and there were blankets at our table, if you wanted something to keep you extra cozy. I added ricotta to my dish, which was the Tagliatelle Bolognese. It was great! We all had a hard time deciding what to eat because everything looked so good. It was a lovely evening.

Visiting from NYC so our baseline for Italian is high.

    We had:
    – Shishito peppers = average — adequately seasoned though generally undercooked
    – Wild Mushroom Pasta = below average — unfortunately the dish had very little taste and only after adding copious amounts of parmigiana cheese was I able to taste much of anything
    – Black Squid Linguine w Calamari = above average: the marinara sauce was young and needed to be cooked more to bring out the flavors. Calamari was grilled and tasted OK.
    – Skirt Steak + Mash potatoes = excellent — seasoned and cooked medium-rare to perfect.
    – Tiramisu = excellent. Velvety, soft, and bold flavors.
    – Super Tuscan wine = excellent

Was really looking forward to trying Gersi. Unfortunately our confirmed Dining Room reservation through Resy was either changed with no notification to a “Bar” reservation or not honored by the host. Unfortunately, the seats offered were at the tail end of the bar and way too small for us to enjoy a meal. Either way, frustrated that a planned in advance date night was impacted so negatively.

Don’t judge the book by its cover and in the case of Gersi, the entrance to the restaurant. No sign other than a small one on the sidewalk might fool some people.

But … who cares, the food is outstanding. Grilled polenta with gorganzola, a veal Milanese, and my favorite orchietti with broccoli rabe and sausage.

This is now our italian spot!

Had a really disappointing meal. First, I had made an indoor reservation but when we got there at our time, there was no indoor seating available and a 20 min wait (busy Friday) so we got a “patio” table which turned out to be a tiny table right by the front door so we had people who were waiting for tables constantly standing around us and lots of in/out traffic. Oh well, not a big deal but a little frustrating since I had made an indoor reservation. Anyway, on to the important part, the food. We didn’t get the complimentary bread and beans that I saw others in reviews saying they were served (which is fine but I was curious) and so we ordered the mushroom bruschetta, which was just one huge piece of bread with garlicky mushrooms on top. It was super soggy and there was no crunch. Mushrooms tasted good at least but how hard is it to sauté a mushroom? Just not a great way to serve bruschetta, if it was on smaller more toasted pieces I think it would have held up better. Cocktails were good at least. But the pasta entrees were so underwhelming. I had the black linguini with calamari and half of the noodles were stuck together and the calamari was way overdone, so rubbery. The sauce was one note tomato. My husbands pasta (mushroom tagliatelle) was in a bland brown gravy and nearly flavorless. We got a bottle of wine and unfortunately when the waiter opened it the top cracked off and pieces went on our table—it was hard to tell if any got on our food. We got a new bottle of wine but there was no offer to replace the pastas (however we really weren’t that impressed anyway so not worth pushing it.) It was just an underwhelming and disappointing experience for what I thought was a well-rated Italian place.

Gersi RVA is a pretty cool spot. Our first experience there was brunch. They deliver on traditional Italian style atmosphere and decor. I personally like foods with a little bit of kick and didn’t get that sensation but this was brunch (how much kick could one expect from breakfast?). We plan on returning for dinner one day and i hope to get a little more flavors then.

  52. Steph Shaw 2022/11

Don’t order the polenta w gorgonzola, you’ll be disappointed. The bourbon/whiskey cocktails are better than the tequila based cocktails. Wine list is great and won’t steer you wrong. Ragu w ricotta, ravioli and cacio e pepe were excellent. Two bottles of wine, a round of cocktails for 4, 4 apps, 3 entrees and a desseet was about $360

I hate to say it but it was not good at all despite the reviews. Super loud and crowded which was fine because I expected it. But the food was not very good and not worth the price. The bruschetta bread was not even toasted. The toping with just very thickly sliced tomatoes and maybe a little basil. Soup of the day wasn’t good. Pasta was fresh but the sauce and toping were not good. Definitely disappointing over all.

  57. Dr Sirrap 2022/10

HORRIBLE. Made us sit in the freezing cold outdoors with our baby and refused to turn on the heat. By far my favorite Italian place in Richmond. The food is extremely fresh. The portions aren’t so huge that you feel like a balloon full of pasta when you leave. The atmosphere is awesome, I can remember when this building was a little run down bar where my grandfather hung out. I’m glad to see it still has a lot of life left in it. On a weekend night it’s going to be loud, so just be warned. It’s a great experience though. Awesome service. And I say this in all honesty, the best Tiramisu I’ve ever had in my entire life. I feel like I could eat a baking pan full of it. I like the rigatoni, and also highly recommend the orichette (I probably misspelled that). The bruchetta with fresh tomatoes is a great starter as well.

I have placed several take out orders. I have picked some up myself and have ordered from different delivery food companies.
Their pickup service is worse than horrible.. BEWARE !!

Great appetizers-plan on sharing. Entrees are fabulous. Gluten-free pasta is available so ask & enjoy. Outside dining available.

  64. Amber Naylor 2022/07

Definitely great time? Food was superb. Just couple of things to know before you go!

Make a reservation! We made one for 8:15, thinking be less people- definitely packed. Parking is on the street so get their early or be okay with walking. Also, it’s a small place, like you’d find in NYC, so it’s loud!

My advice, don’t go if you’re on a time crunch! Let yourself enjoy, get some drinks and apps and the people you’re with!

Also the Raspberry 75, yum! And this is the Sweet Pepper Crostini – recommended!

Fabulous food and cool decor however it’s very tiny in the dinning room. Surprisingly not excessively loud like you would think

Three months ago I would have given this place 5 stars. However, it’s just not the same. Things come out overly salty, service is very questionable, portions range dramatically between orders/visits. Overall I prefer to get takeout from here because the dining room is ridiculously loud and the service just end up ruining the evening. I hope they can get back to where they were.

  69. Paul Cantor 2022/06

Great food and great service. Should be a 4.75 stars, as given salad forks for entre and rigatoni serving was half size, while other Disney were large. Absolutely will go back.

The food is delicious, although I almost never get the regular menu, instead only going for the specials so I can’t give any suggestions on what to get. However it gets real loud in the restaurant so sitting outside is advisable.

We made a reservation online for the dining area but were seated at the bar. Lucky there was just enough space between patrons at the bar that we didn’t have to rub elbows.

Otherwise, it was a typical Italian restaurant. Classic bruschetta had good flavor and very fresh. I would love to try it again when tomatoes are in season! Marinara with ricotta was delicious although the pasta was significantly undercooked (not just al dente). The mushroom ravioli had 8 pieces and left us feeling very hungry. The drink menu had a surprising number of bourbon drinks and we stuck with the margarita and aperol spritz.

The most expensive dinner for 2 I’ve ever paid for, and likely won’t return for that reason. Overall, fine but I may stick with some of Richmond’s other Italian spots.

I do not understand all the positive reviews. We had high expectations given these reviews. We reserved bar seats, which is typical for us at most restaurants. Unfortunately our expectations were not met. Issues:

    1. Seating is so packed at the bar I thought someone was making a bad joke. The seats are closer together than airplane seats. I couldn’t even pull my chair out because it was wedged in so tightly between the two adjacent chairs. This is ridiculous. And yes, I have been in restaurants in Northern Italy. They are not as packed in as this.

    2. The appetizer of parma ham and cantaloupe was mediocre at best. Nothing wrong with the ham, but the cantaloupe lacked any flavor and seemed as though it had been left out too long.

    3. Service was aloof at best. It didn’t seem that anyone was particularly friendly. No one was unfriendly either, but I expect more from a place like this. Another example is that we indicated on the Resy reservation that it was our anniversary but not one person acknowledged it or said anything about it. This alone is not an issue; it is just an indication that the people who work there are clearly not encouraged to be friendly.

On a more positive note, the main course was very good and the wine list is interesting. But we will not go back, that is for sure.

Amazing food and service! Staff were very friendly and happy to answer questions. I had the strozzapreti which was great, but I sampled a bite of the meatball from the mezzi rigatoni ragu and got instantly jealous. For dessert, I wish I remembered her name, but watching her pour the chocolate sauce on the vanilla panna cotta was fun and the panna cotta was so creamy and the chocolate luscious and rich. I had a wonderful time!

Was hoping to have A burger when I told the server My order and to my suprise NO burger .. Excuse me ? This is America and i should be able to have a burger anywhere I please . How are You going to open a restaurant and not have a burger . Wanted to speak to owner to let them have a piece of My mind but they are not there .

A friend and I went here recently and were excited about trying a new place. The 4.5 stars had me hopeful.
The atmosphere is awesome- cool interior, dim lighting, great neighborhood restaurant.
The food was a disappointment. I had the carbonara and choked it down as it was so cheesy and thick. The salad was also heavy on the cheese.
The tiramisu was incredible and that’s the reason I’d come back.
My friend and I were also overwhelmed by being consistently checked on. I understand wanting to make sure your customers are cared for promptly, but read the table? We were taking our time enjoying our meal, my date had barely touched her pasta and was asked if she needed a box. We were also asked a lot if things could be cleared when the plates weren’t even empty. It just felt rushed and like we couldn’t sit and enjoy our conversation and food without someone coming every few minutes.

We have eaten at Gersi RVA 8 times. It’s an absolute favorite! The black salt Caesar cannot be topped and the homemade pasta dishes are incredible. The white beans with the bread are one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, and so simple.

I had such high hopes from what someone had told me. I had built up my expectations and was completely let down. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is because the service was good. We started with bruschettas – one tomato and one garlic. Tomato buschetta was totally underwhelming – some flavorless oversized chopped tomatoes. Zero flavor. The garlic bruschetta was flat out gross. A thick, pasty, fatty cream garlic sauce. I had the grilled fish (branzini) – that was it. Grilled, no flavor. I had to ask for salt. I also had a pear and endive salad – that had potential but was served in a bowl and I could not break them or cut them into reasonably sized pieces, so I found myself shoveling gigantic pieces into my mouth. My dinner partner ordered the chicken parmesan. Again, blah. Way under impressed for spending over $200 for dinner and drinks for 3. Lighting is very dim making even seeing what you are eating a challenge. So sorry to write this luke warm review. Hope to go back and try again – the menu is beautiful and I hope my experience is an outlier.

100% the best authentic north east/Italian food in Richmond. This place is a blessing .Not to mention Gersi is a great guy and the staffs equally as nice. The way Italian food is meant to be eaten and served. Finally ! . In addition the place is nice and prides itself on keeping it that way . Don’t believe the place has to be a dump hole in the world to be fantastic 🙂

Cozy and homey environment while still feeling upscale. I love the low lit ambiance and the friendly but not-too-present service which invites you to enjoy yourself and stay awhile. The homemade ricotta was creamy and rich- so don’t pass it up if your dish comes with the option. It’s worth the extra charge! I tried the lemon spaghetti which seems to be all the rage- it was yummy and unique and strangely addictive, but I felt it could have used a mix in. I just wanted a little more from it. We loved the bolognese and the Panna cotta. We will be going back to try other things!

Our meal at Gersi was lovely. Very spur of the moment decision after the weather turned on Saturday. In the future we will probably call and make reservations but perhaps not.

We sat at the bar and Skylar made our experience frankly. She was fun, pleasant, engaging and knowledgeable. We’ll probably sit at the bar again because of her. We’ll see!

We only had really one negative thus the 4 star rating as opposed to 5. That missing 1 star is an important one. Both of our pastas had great flavor and were so on the edge of being inedible. The salt profile was almost stinging. I am all about liberally salting my pasta water but this was a lot. So much so that both of us kept talking about how the flavors in our main course were evident but muted by the salt. We just weren’t quite sure if that was intentional. We certainly hope not. It was a romantic and fun time. We want that again!

The bread was good. The fennel and citrus salad was delicious. It was bright and refreshing. A good palate cleanse. The veal meatballs were magical little balls of pure flavor. I could eat them until I burst.

The atmosphere was a blend of family and bistro dining. A little eclectic. Warm and inviting. Definitely lower key.

Prices were not bad. Appropriate for the meal you get. Median high is probably about right but worth it.

All in all it’s a great place! Once again we can’t thank Skylar enough for making our experience a fantastic one!

I cannot rate the food of this place and I assume that it is excellent. No doubt! What I can say is that there was absolutely no social distancing being practiced whatsoever in the restaurant. The pandemic is still full on and there were women waiting to be seated with their masks off. There were plastic partitions between booths/tables but only 2-3 feet in height and people weren’t 6’ apart. I really wanted to eat here though the reality that it was packed was dangerous considering I know many people that have gotten covid-19. Really really disappointed!

Ok, I know this place has really good reviews so I feel kind of bad for posting this but I feel like people should know…If you get the Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe, consume at risk. I ordered it to go, and when I opened the container I saw a pool of about 0.4″ of olive oil at the bottom. I ate probably half of the pasta. Flavor was alright, but just so oily. Approx 45 minutes later I had a really romantic surprise date with my toilet. The date lasted about 30 minutes. We got to know each other really intimately. I was admittedly a little rude on the date, because I checked my phone a lot. I was reading about how olive oil can essentially be used as a laxative if too much is consumed. Anyways, even though the dish set me up on this really great toilet date, it was enough to probably not eat here again. 2 stars because my boyfriend’s pasta was good, and he didn’t lose half his body weight afterwards like I did.

Food was delicious, not normally a huge fan of Italian food but it really was something special. Definitely recommend at least trying. Staff are very kind.

  107. Quick Reviews 2021/07

This is a small place and food was ok. The bruschetta was soggy and in one large piece of bread which made sharing difficult. Table bread was good but would have been better warm. Mezzi Rigatoni was undercooked but the linguini with clams was excellent. The water attendant was on top of his game, as we barely could start draining the glasses before he refilled. Only the hostess wore a mask which is unusual right now in Richmond restaurants given current CDC guidance. Overall it was ok, not great.

The food here was very good. It is really small so just be prepared for that. Everything just needed a pinch of salt but the dishes were all prepared well. The favorite items we ordered were the Limone pasta and the skirt steak. The vanilla Panna cotta was also one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had. Definitely a must stop in Richmond.

  116. Dan B 2021/05

Very small building so space can become an issue during peak hours. Well-appointed bar in a friendly staff. They do have outdoor seating but it’s not very nice and you’re on a fairly busy street. No issues with the food it was very tasty traditional Italian cuisine. It’s moderately priced not inexpensive but not really expensive. Gersi is a cute hole in the wall Italian restaurant. Almost all of the pasta is handmade and it makes all the difference! The staff are attentive and the food is indescribably good. A great place to go on a nice, low-key date.

  128. David Henao 2021/01

Had dinner here a couple of weeks ago for the first time with a friend. We both ended up ordering the same thing, a rigatoni dish with sausage and meatballs. Neither dish came with meatballs and only a few pieces of sausage, his dish came swimming in sauce, mine was pretty dry. Mentioned this to our server, whose response was just “hmm OK, yea I’ll be sure to tell someone”. I should’ve just asked to speak to the manager, that was my fault. So I give them 2 stars, mediocre service and since I dont really have much else to judge them on except for what turned out to be a pricey (for what I ended up being served) meatball-less and almost sausage-less dry pasta bowl. Definitely not impressed.

The staff at this restaurant are completely oblivious that they are located 10 feet from a residential building and they constantly blast bass music in their car constantly out back and yell profanities on their breaks. Had been waiting to try out this place after drooling over their Instagram for months. I am so happy to report that Gersi did not disappoint!! This is the best Italian I have had in Richmond and reminded me so much of my trips to Italy. My husband and I both ordered pappardelle pasta dishes off of their seasonal menu. Mine was filled with wild mushrooms while his had a lamb ragu. Both were INSANE and the servings were generous. We also enjoyed the mussels (came in a delicious red sauce with homemade bread) and the tiramisu (yummy, but I wish it had more of a coffee flavor). The ambiance is also really cozy with lots of candles and mismatched plates. We cannot wait to go back.

Hands down, absolutely the best service in RVS extremely welcoming from start to finish, literally every single member of the staff provided outstanding customer service. Drinks were good (varied selection), appetizers, entrees, and dessert were delicious. We’d tried a few times over the last 2 months to get in, but it just hadn’t worked out, it was most certainly worth the wait! Reservations are definitely recommended, gets busy very quickly during peak hours.

  144. Agnes 2020/07

Food was delicious but a couple of things happened that left us wondering if we’d return. First some waiter (manager, runner? but not ours) grabbed an empty beer glass off our table without asking if we wanted a refill. Second, same guy came later when we had not completely finished eating and grabbed two knives off our table. Weird and infuriating since his arm was inches from my face. No “excuse me” or “may I have your knives”; just a grab and dash. Shame, since pasta, pork chops, bruschetta were all very good.

We are so glad we tried this place – everything was wonderful. My group loved the mussels and calamari appetizers and all our entrees were delicious too. We came on a Saturday night and though we quickly realized we should have made a reservation, we decided that the 1-1.5 hour wait was worth it and we would wait. We waited and waited and checked back an hour and 45 min later (they said they’d call and they never did to update us) only to be told we still had another 20-30 minutes and they couldn’t guarantee us a spot because they “only seat reservations”. After explaining to the hostess and who appeared to be a manager that I understand they can’t predict timing of parties leaving, it would have been nice to know they seat reservations and they book out 2 days ahead so the likelihood of getting a table before 9 pm was almost zero. At this point it was 8:50 pm and we left to go to Mama Zu’s which has never left us disappointed and we got in immediately. I’m all for reservations but it should be made clear that they book their restaurant out with reservations instead of leaving tables for walk-ins. This situation would have been much better and I honestly wouldn’t write the review if it wasn’t for the way the manager talked to me and was incredibly rude talking to me like I was dumb and should be grateful they’d eventually seat us. Like you’re less than the people who made reservations. If that’s how you want to do business I’m fine with spending my money elsewhere. Also my friend wrote a review for this place and we had a terrible experience back in early November and they said they’d reimburse us for the food because of how awful the time was there and they never did which is incredibly annoying to be promised something by a business and then never follow through. Don’t come here without a reservation. It’s a waste of time and they’re rude. Maybe Gersi should explain that reservations are the only option on the weekend. That’s fine, but don’t tell us we’ll get a table you can’t guarantee, and don’t be rude.

I love the idea of the menu with fresh pastas and bruschetta, but the execution missed for me. Both the bruschetta and my pasta dish were too salty; I couldn’t finish it. My dining partner’s ragu was really nice, and I enjoyed the tiramisu and the bread/bean spread that was complimentary. Service was excellent.

Tried it out for brunch. Food was really good but service was a little slow for some reason for brunch. I have no complaints for dinner though. This is such a quaint and beautiful spot and the menu is legit!

Love this place. The beet and ricotta ravioli they have on special is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. The sweet beats and the salty sauce are incredible. Also, the bread served with an amazing bean and garlic spread is SO GOOD. Plus have never had a bad experience with staff or service.

All four of us loved Gersi. Great drinks (not cheap) and an excellent menu with some entrees priced in the mid teens. Risotto entree was great, friend said the sea bass was the best he’d had. Same story with the Bolognese and linguini with clams. Place was packed and loud, which seemed right for this Brooklyn based restaurant. We’ll be back for sure!

We read the review in Richmond Magazine and were excited to try it out. Then realized with current quarantining we’d probably have to wait. Called and Skylar answered very nicely and was very helpful. The food was ready exactly on time for curbside. The salad was incredibly fresh and the ingredients were just the right proportions with subtle flavors not cheap and overwhelming. Can’t say enough. The pasta Limone was so clean and refreshing. So glad they’re here adding to the Richmond scene.

I’ve been to a few of the predecessors in this location (The Betty and Avenue 805) and Gersi seems to be continuing the tradition of great food and service. They served bread with mixed beans and garlic to get us started. For mains we had the Strozzaoretti and the Beet & Ricotta Ravioli. Both were excellent. The Strozzaoretti portion is plentiful and certainly sharable. I could have definitely used a few more Ravioli, the combination of salty and sweet was perfect. The Gersi Manhattan pour was on the smaller side for $14, but enjoyed nonetheless. Great Tuesday night walk through the fan for a great dinner.

Just called to confirm a reservation I had made, on line, for Sat Feb 15, made on Sat 8th. No record of it. No confirmation back to me from you which was why I called to confirm. Not happy. Do not use on line, call instead.

Best Italian in Richmond. The staff is always so nice, incredibly knowledgeable, and always willing to adjust dishes based on allergies, preferences, etc. I highly recommend the gf penne with spicy pomodoro sauce + ricotta or the rockfish (when they have it); had a delicious meal last weekend and last night with our out of town friends/family and both visits were perfect. Will be back soon for sure.

Great food and atmosphere. Had Frank Sinatra playing in the background, perfect for the overall experience. Really enjoyed it and will be back again very soon!!

Too many tables packed into the space. Potato & leek soup was bland. Penne pomodoro was too “tomatoey.” I understand that pomodoro sauce is actually tomato sauce but it was just too much for the amount of penne. Nothing that was ordered by our table of five impressed.

Gersi’s is a quaint restuarant that offers authentic Italian food. As a native NY’er, Gersi’s is spot on and brings us back to our heritage everytime!! Delicious food warm atmosphere keeps us coming back. Well done!!!

Went to Richmond to see family and celebrate a birthday.
My brother suggested we go for dinner at this new italian place that had opened up in their neighborhood. I was taken by surprise to see the owner (Gersi) there. I was sure i had met him before. Turns out i did know him and i’ve eaten at his other restaurant in Brooklyn many times and Love everything i’ve tried so far. . My family and i mostly go there for dinner but they also have a great brunch menu. Turns out the owners have family in Richmond as well and im so glad for my family in VA that now they have a favorite spot to go to for italian specialties. Everything we tried wad just as good as the Brooklyn location. We had Limone pasta to perfection, homemade pappardelle with mushrooms and the Pork Chop. Service also great. Thumbs up.👍

So close to being great all around!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. If they can just get the wine selection on par with everything else this will be an amazing restaurant. I’ll certainly be back to give it another try, hopefully they’ll have some better by-the-glass options by then. As it is the 4 wines that we tried were bad enough to hurt my overall impression of this place.

A great new Italian restaurant in Richmond. We were only able to get a 5pm reservation, but on Black Friday that makes total sense. We started with the Buffalo mozzarella, which was excellent with well salted tomatoes and basil.

I had the black linguini and calamari for my entree, and it had a great kick to it. My wife had the Gorgonzola risotto with pears, and it was just as good if not better. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food, so get here before they raise them into the 30s.

First dining experience. We had the roasted brussel sprouts, pappardelle with wild mushrooms, mussels in red sauce and linguine alle vongole.  Everything was exceptional. The flavor profiles were bold and delicious. The red sauce with the mussels was the best I’ve ever had and we used the generous bread to sop it all up.  Interesting use of basil in the clam dish, which I loved.  They served a little side dish of beans with the bread. A nice touch I’ve never seen elsewhere.

It was ok, and I probably won’t rush to go back. Pasta was nothing outstanding, and our server was semi-clueless. But the atmosphere and appetizers were great

The best Italian restaurant in Richmond & I’m am Italian. Authentic, made from scratch pasta & seasonal menu items. The craft cocktails are superb. We are so excited to have such a delicious place to go to. Definitely our new regular spot.
