Do the pictures not say enough? Beautiful presentation and with such short notice. Staff were so friendly, helpful, and communicative. They made this amazing sushi “cake” for a friend of mine and blew us away both visually and in taste! It was so delicious. I’m a big fan of their sushi burritos but this is what sold me for sure!

Overall good spot with friendly service, good quality and reasonable pricing. Didn’t realize the chirashi comes with a layer of lettuce between the fish and the rice, so next time know to order without that – but any chirashi that includes uni is a pleasant surprise!

Very solid choice for sushi. The quality of the fish was good. Service was ‘richmond’ and fits the vibe of the place. Not pretentious, which made for an enjoyable relaxed dining experience even though the presentation of the dishes was quite impressive, but the presentation surpassed the actual flavor of the dishes. Again, nothing bad, just not amazing. The sushi rice was noticeably subpar, but the ginger /Wasabi paste they used was decent quality. Definitely a good date spot to impress your lady friend, but maybe not the best choice if looking for a knockout gourmet sushi experience.

I’ve seen this place on Instagram and have been really wanting to try it. I am completely not disappointed! The food was fantastic, atmosphere was great. We did the sushi burritos. I am looking forward to coming back and getting some of the rolls to share. Parking is a pain in the rear and that’s my only complaint!

The cocktail was delicious and the ambience was nice. Sushi nachos were quite delicious! I just don’t understand why any chef would serve sushi with a pile of greasy french fries with a $3 upcharge to add nori on top…rediculous. There was nothing special about the fries even though our server recommended them. I really missed having ginger on the plate. Next time I would definitely skip the sushi burrito which was difficult to eat for some “normal” cut sushi rolls. Sushi is a delicate dish and this presentation made it feel heavy and burdensome. It was a bit pricey too, but it fits Scott’s Addition’s clientele. That being said, I would return. Best sushi in Richmond, thus far.

Borderline 2 but at least no one got sick. Mid-tier sushi at best.

Genuinely shocked the ratings are as high as they are.

Spicy tuna is ground instead of cubed which was a turn off. Flavors just did not work together on anything we had.

If you eat most of your sushi from the grocery store and sushi king is ‘fancy’ for you, then this is probably top tier sushi. Otherwise, there are better options in the area.

Today was my first time visiting Fighting Fish. I ordered the Electric Eel Rito & Lochness Burrito. They were good, however the fries left a lot to be desired. They were overcooked and had no flavor. I was unaware there was an up charge for the fries but if they had tasted better I may not have mind. I would have preferred the sweet potato chips but ordered the fries based on the bartender’s recommendation.

We came after a recommendation and we were happy with our order but not blown away. The sushi was a bit overpriced in our opinion for what it was and I am undecided on if I would come back. We got the monster roll and the sunset roll. Between those two sunset roll was better and we probably would have picked something else for the monster. Overall fish was fresh but the flavors didn’t wow us.

I love Fighting Fish, but I had an awful incident with wait staff last night.

I ordered a mocktail, and was halfway through drinking it when I realized that I didn’t feel right. Apparently, the names of the mocktails are the same as the names of the cocktails, so it is very easy to accidentally serve someone alcohol.

There are so many people who can’t have alcohol for a variety of reasons: sobriety, medical conditions, mental health conditions, medication interactions, or in a situation where it’s not ideal to drink, like on a date with a stranger. Please make the common sense change so that mocktails have different names, to avoid accidentally hurting a customer.

The food here is amazing, but I was so disappointed that this very preventable error happened.

I think we caught them on a bad day. The rice that’s apart of the sushi rolls were old + hard + dry. The classic salmon roll confused me bc it’s salmon had a nasty fishy aftertaste but the salmon sashimi was great. Tiger tempura was drenched in the spicy Mayo so that was majority of its taste too.

My boyfriend and I just tried this place for the first time and unfortunately, it wasn’t great. We were starving though so we ate pretty much everything haha.

For starters, we ordered the raw oysters on a half shell. Our waiter brought them out with our regular order of rolls which was slightly annoying since we wanted to eat our appetizer while waiting on our food. The oysters themselves tasted fine but were TINY. Like thumbnail sized but full price.

I got the chirashi and the fish was cut WAY too thick. Not only is that bad business (could have gotten 3 servings out of one piece), it makes the fish chewier when it’s supposed to melt in your mouth. The fish was also served over mostly cabbage and random salad leaves with almost no rice. Chirashi traditionally is served over a bowl of rice. When I got to the rice, it was undercooked.

My boyfriend got the firecracker roll and the salmon did taste off to us. After reading other lower rated reviews, I’m hoping it’s not food poisoning to come.

Our service was also not great. Our waiter seemed sweet but never checked in to see how we were doing/if we wanted anything else. I had to ask her to clear the oysters off the table and she seemed confused at the concept of making room for incoming dishes. She also didn’t tell us what the rolls were when she brought them out and put the orders in front of the wrong person. I think another waiter was more interactive with us honestly.

So yeah won’t be back. Slow service and very sub par sushi. Not sure what the hype is about.

Disclaimer: I really don’t like to leave bad reviews; this is just my honest opinion based on my experience. They just drag me to the dark side when they serve me bad food. So, here’s my funny take on a horrible eating experience that didn’t end up being so funny.
Oh boy, prepare yourself for a tale of epic proportions–a dining misadventure that rivals the best of comedy shows. It all began with an invitation from the manager who extended a direct invite to the esteemed foodie blogger crew, @we_hungryaf. Little did I know, I was about to embark on a gastronomic rollercoaster ride straight into the Twilight Zone of culinary disasters. We have a mutual understanding of exploring the culinary wonders of the world. We even bring each other goodies from our gastronomic exploits. But this time they should have kept their visit a secret. They could have saved me from this culinary calamity. I might just have to view their IG posts like everyone else from now on.
A lot of folks really hyped up this restaurant. The heart of the culinary chaos was the Fighting Fish Sushi Burrito. With expectations high and taste buds primed for a flavor showdown, I eagerly awaited the clash of Ahi Tuna, salmon, and shrimp tempura. Alas, what I encountered was a battle of confusion–a wild tussle between kani, avocado, pickled red onions, and kabayaki that left my palate utterly perplexed. And those so-called house-made sweet potato chips were overcooked and inedible? They were so hard that I almost cut my gums. In fact, I shared my concerns with my friend about the spoiled fish smell. My olfactory senses never fail me, and this time they screamed danger. Thank goodness I didn’t venture further into their culinary escapades. But hold on tight, my friends, for the grand finale of this comedy of errors–the dreaded food poisoning. Yes, you heard it right. The universe decided to spice up the proceedings with a dash of gastro-disaster, turning my meal into a punchline. They say laughter is the best medicine, but I’m not sure if it applies to this particular case.
So, take my humorous tale with a grain of salt, or perhaps a pinch of laughter. Don’t take it from me, try at your own risk. As for me, I’ll be steering clear from food follies for a minute. May your culinary adventures be filled with laughter, delightful flavors, and a good dose of common sense. Bon appétit!

Super fresh, the salmon sashimi was beautifully marbled & buttery. Minimal selection of fish but I see this as a plus. You’re guaranteed fresh, high quality fish. The Tiradito was a bright & wonderful application for yellowfin. The Lemongrass martini was a perfect pairing for our meal. The rolls were very well done. We’re looking forward to returning soon!

So I am giving this experience 4 stars ONLY because of how hard it is to order takeout. The Sushi Burrito is definitely 5 stars..DELICIOUS! The server was nice and efficient, and the atmosphere was very laid back, in spite of being on a horrible stretch of The Boulevard. I have tried for 2 DAYS to order takeout from this restaurant, as I live in Mechanicsville and work in the West End. Every time the “wait” time was an HOUR or longer! I called at one point because when they OPENED at noon, their wait time was 90 minutes for takeout. The young lady said she would check to see if that was accurate. She came back on the phone and told me 60 minutes, not 90. Well, I decided to wait after lunch and try again, about 3:15..still an hour wait for takeout. I finally just drove to the restaurant to dine in, and 10 minutes later when I got there, I only saw 2 tables with people. There were at least 2 servers and 2 managers by my count. I ordered, ate, and paid, and I was STILL out of the restaurant before 60 minutes. If the rest of your food is as good as that burrito was, you guys are missing out on business. I can understand if it’s a longer wait time when you’re busy, or if you’re understaffed, but neither of those scenarios was the case. Why not just have only dine in business? I’m saying you are missing out on A LOT of revenue. Too bad, I wanted to give this place 5 stars, especially since the burrito was as good as I heard it was. Maybe someone will read this and realize that we all don’t always have time to visit and stay, but we’d still like to order take out and enjoy your delicious food, too. Hopefully my next “visit” will be worthy of 5 stars.

Fighting fish is awesome- best sushi in richmond, our new to go. It also has a well thought out bar cocktail menu. Just got the Elder millennial and was fabulous, but every cocktail I’ve done there is art. The flaming tuna nachos are probably my current favorite substance. A bit spicy, lots of tuna, tomato and roe – just awesome combo. Service is fast, friendly to call ahead. Just a great place.

Looks like a swanky little place. The staff was down to earth and really great with suggestions on food and drinks. I had to navigate some allergy issues, but that was easy when talking it out with the waitress.
Prices were on par for sushi, not as expensive as the place looks like it would be. We were there for the sushi. The menu has other alternatives. You are looking at 10 to 20 dollars for most appetizers and entrées with a few falling outside either end of that range.
Decor was simple, clean, and pretty cool with good lighting. Tables are smaller, would be better for smaller groups of four or couples, but I am sure they can accommodate for larger groups.
There was a well stocked bar. However, I wasn’t able to explore it in as much depth as I would have liked to on this visit. Saki was their spirit of choice or specialty. They offered it hot or cold, by the shot or by the glass.
Parking was easily found on the main street. We parked a block away from the intersection that the restaurant is near. Seemed safe, and nothing was to worry about. There were people out walking around late evening. Even with a basball game playing in the stadium down the road, the traffic wasn’t too bad in the area.

We got here without a reservation on a Friday night. We recommend a reservation. We got here at about 6pm and put our name on the list and was told 45 minutes and if we wanted we can sit at the bar for service if there are free seats. I gave her my name and phone number twice and watch her write it down. She said she call or text. We went down the streets for a drink and at about 40 minutes went by and we walked back. She looked startled when we walked in and it was less busy then before. I asked if there was availability and she said “um I tried to call you guys but there was no answer.” I never got a call or text, and all the tables empty were reserved. We sat at the bar since that freed up and placed an order. The bar tender was great and the wife appreciated the NA bar options. We got edamame and two rolls. The edamame was a small bowl and not enough salt really but the sushi was pretty good. Took a while to come out, but it was enjoyable. I don’t like cucumber or avacado in my sushi and 90% of the sushi on the menu had those. FYI. Other down side is if you like your miso soup, which comes with sushi, is in the bottom 3 miso soups I have had. Surprisingly, Sushi King has better miso soup. All and all ok experience, but there are so many other sushi places in town may not go back.

This might be a very unfound gem of a Sushi joint in Richmond. I must have driven by them 100’s of time and never knew they were a restaurant. Looks more like an old warehouse, but find some parking on Boulevard and try this place out. They have Fantastic Sushi! Once you walk in, it’s a totally different vibe than their outside appearance. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great. It took a little while for our food to come, but they a couple of large tables in front of us. We’ll worth the wait though. Nice, large rolls. Their happy hour is unlike any other! The sushi is fresh and has good portions! Our waitress was very nice and the place was busy, so I recommend a reservation! This definitely is one of the best sushi spots I’ve been to. Dining in is a must! Just don’t order too much at once. The tables for 2 aren’t large enough for hungry people!

Don’t judge a restaurant by its cover. I must admit when I was driving to find parking (while looking for the restaurant) I didn’t see anything that stood out like eat here. Until, I walked in and was impressed
The waiter/ bartender was very helpful and friendly. For my meal I had the salmon wontons and the soft shell crab sushi, I recommend this place!

I don’t like sushi. At least I thought I didn’t like sushi until I went to Fighting Fish and ate their sushi. Wow! The only thing better than admiring the beautifully plated dishes is eating the beautifully plated dishes. We arrived at Happy Hour and took advantage of the “Happy Food ” $5 each for Furikake Fries and Mini Flaming Tuna Nachos that were unbelievably great. The Tiger Tempura Roll was fantastic, as was the Tuna Love Roll and the Ruby Roll. Every dish was excellent and was served with a small bowl of Miso Soup. I am so happy that I went out of my comfort zone and tried the delicious food at Fighting Fish. I can emphatically now say, “I love sushi!”

Terrible customer service! My parents gave my husband and I and $150 gift card to this place. So essentially they have the funds. I thought it would be fun instead of getting a sitter to use this gift card to get the promotional “Heart Box” of sushi for $45. They then told me that they could not take gift cards over the phone. Then they said they will not be taking gift cards for this at all because we don’t really have time to come in to eat just take away. So, I was concerned about not being able to take a gift card over the phone but essentially I could pay in person. If you have a gift card to a place then you should be able to use it for items there. I completely respect that I cannot use it for alcohol or tip but I guess the box for this valentines promotion is very expensive. So, I no longer want to eat here – anyone want a gift card?

Don’t ever get take out from here. I ordered 2 specialty rolls and 2 regulars rolls. They said come by for pick up in 30 minutes. So I do, and it’s not ready. No problem, not a big deal…so I thought. I ended up waiting at the bar for AN HOUR until they finally had the order ready. An hour? 90 minutes to make some sushi? Are we arranging the rice one grain at a time? Did we need to step out and fish for some tuna real quick? After 45 minutes of waiting they offered me a glass of champagne. Cool, I didn’t take it, that’s not why I came here. And then when I got home I saw that they forgot the wasabi. Never again.

This was our first time at this location (Our last visits had been to their smaller restaurant downtown). Lovely, subtly upscale (candle light, fabric napkins, sparkly lights visible from the mirrors) with spots of humor. Happy hour specials from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. were tasty & perfect for 2 to share. Our family remembers Fighting Fish mostly because of their sushi burritos…& we will continue coming for them!
We were there for our 34th anniversary and were surprised that they brought us each mochi…yum! Parking: We were able to find a municipal lot 2 blocks away.

This is the place I recommend to everyone looking for good Japanese fish cuisine. Many other establishments have gone downhill in quality, and it’s a stark difference from the careful attention Fighting Fish puts towards their food.

It’s sad to say how many other places neglect freshness. I don’t want to mention how many times I’ve been let down by inedible meals in Richmond, so this is a beacon of light.

All the fish is extremely fresh and professionally prepared and selected. All the produce is in peak condition – if you’ve ever been let down by hard mango bits or bruised avocados, you’re in luck. And the service has always been excellent.

I’ve had the Poke Bowl, warm sake, Chirashi, seared tuna appetizer, and sushi burrito all of which I highly recommend. I will absolutely go again and keep hyping everyone up about it hoping that it stays as good as it is today.

Thank you for showing everyone how it’s done!!

    Sushi burritos are amazing!

Edited to update – after a few visits, I have to knock my rating down. I’ve been a little let down from the past few times I’ve been and the food from tonight was straight up bad – the Eel sushi burrito had almost no eel on it! I know because the burrito promptly fell apart when I picked it up. The whole thing just tasted like cream cheese, I didn’t want to even finish half of it. My husband got a tuna sushi burrito that he enjoyed. Considering it’s not cheap and this was a splurge meal, I’m really disappointed.

Victoria was a fantastic server with great Japanese whiskey recommendations. The food was incredible too. She & the staff went above and beyond making my birthday special! Thanks so much!

Excellent service. Freshness of simple rolls (salmon avocado, tuna, cali etc.) was impressive. This was the freshest sushi I’ve ever found in Richmond, especially for lunch. Miso soup was flavourful. The specialty rolls were interesting. The menu is simple and straightforward. Fighting to return again!

Excellent food and service. That Firecracker sushi will make you feel alive!

Great ‘sushi fusion’ restaurant, with a chill atmosphere, simple menu, and great cocktails. My wife said this would be a good place to take a girl on a date, and then I asked her what did she think we were doing?

  136. Jason McConnell 2021/12

My wife’s and I favorite sushi in the greater Richmond area! Always very friendly and the food is always perfect. Can’t wait for them to have dine in available so we can have a date night!!

Was looking to try a different sushi place in Richmond versus my usual place and I was so pleasantly surprised with Fighting Fish. From beginning to end everything was a 5 star experience. Great drinks, great service, great food. Have never had sushi that was so fresh and appetizing. Got the nachos and the Tuna Love roll. Would highly recommend

I’ve been looking forward to trying this place for a long time and I finally had the chance today, but I ended up pretty disappointed.

I ordered the Chirashi, and they do give you a lot of fish! Probably more than most other places in the city. But while the fish was okay (only okay), the rice was undercooked and hard. Every bite of rice was crunchy. And there was no wasabi in my takeout order either, which sounds like a small thing but I think the point of sashimi is to eat it with a little wasabi, soy sauce, and rice for a nice balance.

It probably would have been a better experience to dine in at the restaurant and order one of their more exciting dishes, but I was just sooo disappointed after looking forward to it for a while. Sashimi has such simple ingredients that if some of them are lacking it’s just not a good experience… I feel like I paid a little too much for a not so enjoyable dinner.

Maybe I’ll go again and try something like their tuna nachos or sushrittos, but I wouldn’t go back for plain sashimi or a chirashi bowl.

The best sushi in Virginia! I can’t even find sushi in DC as good as Fighting Fish! The staff are really nice and helpful too

  145. David Steiger 2021/08

My wife and I were super excited to order sushi from Fighting Fish the day after the super bowl – we’ve been craving sushi for several weeks now and ordered it via the Uber Eats App. We ordered 3 rolls and specifically asked for extra soy sauce. We received our order with only. . . 1 TOTAL packet of soy sauce. To me, it’s pretty standard to provide one packet of soy sauce/order, but to ask for extra soy sauce and only receive 1 packet for 3 rolls is simple unacceptable. Fighting fish, I know you can do better – I’ll think about ordering again, but not anytime soon!!!

I have delivered for Fighting Fish many times and thought I’d try them out tonight. Doing deliveries, never waited for more than a few minutes (almost always ready when I arrive), same polite gentleman at the counter every time.

My wife had the Monster Roll and the classic Unagi roll, I had Tuna Love with miso and seaweed salad.

Very fresh, tasted awesome, and ready almost to the minute that was estimated (picked it up myself).

Great all around, we’ll be back! 🍥

Some street parking available but a cute little place with decent sushi. I really liked the interior decor. There was a good sized bar with different options but we ordered some Jasmine tea with our dinner and started off with the Fighting Fish Tower. The wonton chips that came with it were very thin, light and crisp and paired well with the fish. There was a lot of avocado and rice though.

For dinner, I ordered the Electric Eel Rito Sushi Burrito and my boyfriend ordered the Grilled Mackeral. Both were very good. I really liked the burrito but the sweet potato chips that came with it were pretty stale. Was slightly disappointed with those as it definitely seemed like those had been sitting out for a while. The grilled mackerel was delicious and it does come with a lot of cilantro and onion which I enjoyed. Overall good service and good food.

My fiancé and I stumbled upon this place with no expectation and were pleasantly surprised. The drinks were yummy and strong. The sushi was DELICIOUS one of the best sushi places we’ve tried so far in Richmond! The service was quick and kind. The ambiance is beautiful and welcoming. The music is very fitting for a Scott’s addition restaurant as well. Will definitely be a regular place for us!

They don’t do takeout on Fridays-Sundays. Takeout—I’m not even asking asking for a delivery service. An incredibly strange decision when there’s still a pandemic going on and some people don’t want to or can’t risk dining in restaurants.

  160. Cari Burns 2021/01

The staff was so friendly and helpful in deciding what to get. They did not have Yum Yum sauce so I was a bit disappointed, but the sushi was good regardless. I ate here in March of 2019 and liked it.

  174. Carissa Ghazalie 2020/07

I’m not sure why the ratings for this place are so high — maybe it’s what I ordered?

My expectations are probably skewed because I’m from a town with tons of (good) Asian restaurants.

The food took a long time to come out, and service was a bit slow.

The food was fine but not what I’m used to. I ordered the chirashi and side salad — I originally ordered edamame but was informed that they were out of edamame. I expected a salad with ginger dressing or something similar because that’s what I am used to getting at sushi restaurants, but the salad was quite different from what I expected. It consisted of lettuce, cabbage (?), tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, and some sort of green dressing. I’m not sure what the dressing was, but it had an interesting flavor. Definitely not what I’m used to.

The chirashi included an assortment of fish along with some cucumber slices, pickled red onion, danmuji (yellow radish), and seaweed salad. I’ve never had danmuji with my chirashi before, so I thought it was a bit strange. I also thought that the pickled red onions was a strange addition to the bowl (but objectively not bad… just didn’t seem to go with the dish). The quality of the fish was okay, nothing bad but not outstanding

My friend ordered the fighting fish tower, and we thought the flavor of the fish was interesting. It was a bit spicy and kind of tasted like jalapeño cheetos.

Overall, I probably wouldn’t return. This definitely isn’t a place for you if you’re expecting traditional flavors (which is okay — some people don’t want that) and not worth the price point to me. I especially don’t think it’s worth going to if you’re from a town that has an abundance of Asian/Japanese food. I recognize that there aren’t many options in Richmond, so I think that Fighting Fish is an okay option if you know what you’re getting yourself into.

  175. KJ K 2020/06

Good sushi, nice and fresh. Friendly service. Menu is somewhat limited, but very tasty. Spicy tuna nachos were crispy and delicious. Restaurant is very small (not cramped), so seating is limited. Very enjoyable experience

  176. Allison Kramer 2020/06

best tofu donburi i’ve ever had. the tofu was crispy, cooked perfectly. the sauce was so flavorful, 10/10. the pickled veggies were fresh, bright, and tangy. i literally can’t wait to have this dish again. the only wish i have is that there are more vegetarian menu items – hopefully someday soon!

  177. Sergio Porto 2020/06

I don’t usually write restaurants reviews, but this one truly deserves one. Amazing flavor and creativity; by far, the best sushi I’ve ever had.

Come on! Nobody bothered to update this place’s status? We came all the way, paid for expensive parking, and the place is closed! So disappointed and hungry.

  179. linchikas 2020/03

Came to this place due to great reviews and was not disappointed. Fairly priced and good sushi. The Monster roll was tasty and large enough for dinner.

  180. Coltrane Conklin 2020/03

The waitress dipped her thumb in every single miso soup (party of 8) as she was serving it and then added automatic gratuity. She then didn’t give any change to someone who paid with a twenty, even though she had already added gratuity. If we hadn’t been late for a meeting, we’d have complained.

The sushi also wasn’t very good.

  181. Vague Obscenities 2020/03

Very nice small place, call for reservations. The atmosphere is very good and the staff was helpful and quick. The sushi was good, but next time we will get poke bowls, as the poke marinated apps we got were great. The only downside was the miso soup was a little salty for my taste.

  184. Randal Fisher 2020/02

Fighting Fish is a gem in Jackson Ward. Try a sushi burrito (I prefer the Peperito with optional and up-priced yellow tail) complete with miso soup. And speaking of gems, Amy is preternaturally charming.

Went for a late dinner and the food was delicious! We had the sushi donut with double salmon (on top and inside), the Hawaiian poke bowl, and the spicy samurai roll. Our favorite was the sushi donut because the rice was perfectly cooked! Just the right amount of moisture and rice vinegar to complement the very fresh salmon.

  205. kimy khaos 2019/09

A service was great and kind, restaurant was clean but, the food is over hyped for a 4.7 star restaurant. Shrimp Tempura roll was dry and tasteless and the Don Carnivore was extremely fatty and tough. My yellowtail poke bowl was..off. A little overpriced for the quality of the meal. Probably won’t be going back again.

One of the best places in Richmond. Definitely on the pricy side, but it won’t break the bank. They have a super creative menu that continually surprises me with how top notch it is. Delicious as always! Finally got the chance to eat it today (after their renovation) earlier this year (or maybe last year). It’s beautiful and the atmosphere is pleasant. I got their spicy sashimi salad which was delicious. I did get the tuna tartare as an appetizer and that came out delicious! I would like to try and get their sushi donut one day. It looks amazing.

  229. How To Actual 2019/05

Great food. I ordered two three rolls and figgured that would be enough. However I was full after two. I just ate the last one to be polite. Great place to eat come in a few minutes after 5 because they have the fresh fish delivered every day at 5 so if you come in right at 445 – 5 you’ll smell the fishy oder in the air for about 5 min followed by a vinegar smell since they’re getting the rice ready.. If that doesn’t bother you then come in whenever. But I’d say the best time to come is 515 to 530 it’ll be fresh fish and the smell will be gone. I cant fault them on the smell since it’s a small restaurant and they’re trying to give us the consumer the freshest fish.

  239. Kayla Tilghman 2019/03

We got flaming tuna nachos, tuna and salmon poke, and the tuna love roll. Everything was delicious! Poke bowls are loaded, lots of food for your money. I loved that they had La Croix to drink! Definitely the best sushi I’ve had in Richmond.

  240. J 2019/03

Loved the monster roll and spicy salmon roll I had at this small sushi shop. Our server was the only one for the whole restaurant but we still had great service and she recommended a nice sake to go with my sushi. Would come here again for sure and get the sushi donut or poke next time. reservations definitely required since the place is so small

Cool little spot in Jackson Ward. Sushi was outstanding as was the service. You will like this place if you like seafood in a quaint urban setting.

  242. Kyle Anschuetz 2019/03

This is a small place with limited seating in an up and coming part of town. The food options were really quite impressive and the fish was of excellent quality. My fiancé and I had a lovely time here!

So glad we discovered this place and were able to get a seat at the bar since we didn’t have reservations!

    Definitely check this place out.

  247. Brek Sparks 2019/02

Surprising quality, variety and good service. The sushi burritos are the shizzy.

  248. Robin Lotz 2019/02

Been here 4 times. Every poke bowl I have ordered is good and consistent.

  249. Marcus Smith 2019/01

I have never not been satisfied when I eat here. This place truly is a “Hidden Gem” in Richmond! The first bite I’ve ever had here blew me away with it’s flavor and presentation was flawless… truly beautiful.

“Social Media Food Picture Post” worthy everytime.

The kitchen staff always maintain a respectful level and the music is at just the right volume for how many people are in it.

I’ve seen someone to tell the Cheif they can just make whatever he wants to serve him because he knows everything is a pleasure to eat… when his food came out it was something I have never seen before but I have never seen someone enjoy a meal much before.

If you come to eat a Fighting Fish you will never leave hungry and I have never had a problem with any of the staff serving me since they are some of the nicest people I have ever met!

Eat here you will not regret it! They even have a vegan tofu bowl that is so good I have seen straight up meat eaters order it over and over again because it’s so well done!

  250. Taylor Ogburn 2019/01

    Delicious! I recommend the nachos

  251. Jacob Pepper 2018/12

This is a wonderful sushi restaurant and I will eat there many times again do be warned that you need to make a reservation beforehand or risk waiting, in my case the restaurant was full and I hadn’t made a reservation and only had to wait 15 min

  252. T Carter 2018/12

Nicest people..Best food. Cooked to perfection. Great atmosphere. Up-and-coming neighborhood . Highly recommend!

  253. Caleb Stewart 2018/12

We missed this place when we first drove by looking for it – it’s tucked into a tight space. But walking, you can’t miss it. And thank God for that, because it’s amazing. My wife has allergies to both gluten and dairy, and the server was very accommodating – only a handful of menu items are marked GF, but they can make anything allergen-friendy. We got the sushi donut as an appetizer, which was delicious, if a little unwieldy, and each got sushi burritos for our meals, which were amazing. The sauce they came with is to die for. I absolutely recommend Fighting Fish.

  254. Amanda 2018/11

Cute hole in the wall set up with excellent quality food and service.

  255. Scott Beckett 2018/11

This place has a great menu. Focused, but with a variety of fresh and flavorful dishes built around sushi and poke bowls. Complimentary miso soup is a nice touch. A representative sample of sakes to complement the food. He says ace is small but cozy. Staff were warm and attentive. Sushi burrito was tasty, but I would recommend the combination poke bowl.

  256. Paige Reisenfeld 2018/11

Delicious food and wonderful service. If you get here at Happy Hour, be prepared to wait a little, but still worth it.

They try to be unique in a world full of the same sushi places across the entire country which is good but the food was not really the best. I may have just not likes what I got, but I wasn’t really a fan of the options. I wouldn’t go back but if you are interested I would try it.

  258. Benjamin Jones 2018/10

    Tasty

    Worst sushi in Richmond!

(Jk it is by far the BEST sushi in the city. Only hoping to scare away people so we can continue to get a table).

Went here on a Sunday for lunch. We loved it! A nice mix of sushi options, poke bowls, sushi burritos and great appetizers. We had the shrimp ceviche appetizer, so good! And a poke bowl and a sushi burrito. We loved it all. Staff was awesome. It’s small but great. A new favorite for sure.

  266. Moni Lozano 2018/09

This place has the best sushi in the city. Their sushi burritos are amazing. So are their poke bowls. I eat here often. The staff is always friendly. I would give it five stars but for the lack of atmosphere and decor. A little more effort in that area would go a long way.

  267. megan nelson 2018/09

  271. Jared Sipes 2018/09

Very tiny poke restaurant in Jackson Ward, but the food packs a punch. We decided to come by on a Saturday evening without a reservation and it was pretty busy so there was a short wait. It’s a bit awkward to wait inside, especially if there are others waiting as well. Worth it, though. The bowls are plentiful and tasty.

  272. Donal Owen 2018/08

Cute, Cozy location downtown with great food and good service

  273. Jeff Skrzycki 2018/07

So good. Food is amazing. Service is good. Price us fair. Not a big place so make a reservation if there are more than 4 of you.

  276. crystal wright 2018/07

One of my fav sushi spots! Gotta try the ceviche! And the happy hour prices are amazing on food!

  277. PAUL LAMBERSON 2018/07

Stopped in with my son and his girlfriend.
Ordered a number of dishes and comment as follows:
    1) shrimp batter more like pancake batter. Should be light and airy allowing the shrimp flavor and texture to come thru. Batter hid everything and instead of being crisp was soggy
    2) use if processed cod fish and calling it “real crab” is inexcusable. After I pointed this out a small dish containing something that looked like canned tuna was brought to the table. Actually turned out to be canned crab. YUK

If we go out to a local restaurant whose prices scream quality we expect just that. Big thumbs down for this place

  278. Brandon McGhee 2018/06

Friendly staff and great poke! Stop in for lunch to save some money. Ingredients were fresh, rice was on-point, and everything has beautiful presentation (even when you take it to-go!).The sushi burritos are fun too!

  290. Jenae Mason 2018/03

I have eaten here 3 times in the past 3 weeks and will be back soon. I am plant based and I haven’t had great sushi in a while. The staff made 2 custom veggie roll with pickled onions, avocado seaweed and one with jalapeno peppers. I’m addicted. It’s a tight space, not ideal for more than 4 people. But service us great. Hope you enjoy!

  291. DeShaun Cuffy 2018/03

Sushi burritos are out of this world

  292. Michael T. Douglass 2018/03

Sushi is excellent! The quality of the fish they have is hard to come by. Atmosphere is great bery personal and quaint, probably only seats about 20. Presentation was superb and the staff and kitchen was quick and was never waiting for more than a few min. And the free edamame and miso with a meal is a great touch and rarely seen I absolutely recomend stopping in for a bite to eat. If its after 6 make a reservation.

  293. Rebecca Helsel Kelly 2018/03

Loved it! Much smaller than I thought – glad we had a reservation. Poke flight app was so good. Tiger Tempura roll and the special, Gemini Roll, are pictured. Can’t wait to go back!
